Amy Winehouse - Back To Black (CD 2006)

It is easy to see why Amy Winehouse has won so many awards for her music. This is a great collection of songs with superb lyrics and is a prime example of Amy Winehouse's unique talent. There is a theme of heartbreak throughout the album but it's not overwhelming and you get the impression that it's more about acceptance of identifying weaknesses and then getting on with things.

Amy Winehouse really does have one of the most distinctive and amazing voices ever. She sings effortlessly and can sing in various styles ranging from mellow to power ballad and still sound natural.

The first two tracks on the album 1. Rehab; and 2. You Know I'm No Good; are quite pucnhy, almost pop songs and probably ones you've heard before. 'Rehab' is instantly recognisable and guaranteed to get everyone singing along. 'You Know I'm No Good' recently used as the soundtrack to the popular tv series Secret Diary of a Call Girl.

The next couple of tracks 3. Me & Mr Jones; and 4. Just Friends; are short and sweet and have a more soulful feel to them.

Track 5. Back to Black; has more of a gutsy beat to it with a theme of heartbreak in the lyrics. Track 6. Love Is A Losing Game; has a similar theme in the lyrics but is a slower, short track.

Track 7. Tears Dry On Their Own; is brilliant! The lyrics hint at sadness over a man but these are combined with a jazzy tune which gives this some power and attitude. Probably my favourite track on the cd.

Tracks 8. Wake Up Alone; and 9. Some Unholy War; are slower again and are probably my least favourite on the album as they are quite sad sounding songs. That's not to say they aren't good though!

Track 10. He Can Only Hold Her; is an amazing mix of soul and funk with a really catchy beat and background vocals. Once you've heard this, you'll be singing along with the background vocals. Such a shame that the track is so short!

Track 11. Addicted; is a really nice tune to end the album on. It has a more punchy sound and is more upbeat and positive sounding.

This is a great album and I would have no hesitation in recomming it to my firends. Amy Winehouse has a remarkable talent and fully deserves the praise she receives for her musical offerings!

This is a great cd, Amy at her best. I decided to buy this having watched her Back to Black tour on TV.

A mixture of music to be enjoyed by all age groups. Her chart songs and new ones, I have not heard before.

I recommend that anyone who enjoys music listen to this cd. It would be great for all moods. Wether you wantto to wallow in self pity or just listen and enjoy.

this album is brilliant. every single song is catchy.even though amy is a troubled young woman at the moment with the drugs and hubby it hasn't effected her singing.

well I would have to say yes, Amy really has brought together a classic album with appeal for all. Yes in parts it can sound very 'the same' but you need to listen carefully and enjoy her unique style and depth of Lyrics

Amy Winehouse - back to black. Simply a very good LP - its kinda essential to at least listen to this LP, to be fair a copy in your collection doesnt go amiss. Sits rather well (if not super cooly)between Nils and Aretha.

Back to Black and Rehab are the only tracks i had previously heard, these were the reason I bought the CD.What a surprise, this CD is full of real Gems.You wont be dissapointed,a classic.

I own this album, and I really can't understand why the reviews are so good. It WOULD be a good album if it wasn't for the constant distortion and excessive loudness that runs throughout the album.

I have herd other albums criticized for distortion by audiophiles before, and normally if you concentrate hard I can just about hear it briefly, with this album I really don't understand why the producers didn't notice it or how it was it was released before anybody noticed, and I especially can't understand how it sold so well, it has excessive amount of rather obvious distortion that renders this album unlistenable to me, to such an extent that I downloaded some of the songs after I had bought the CD because I convinced that there was something wrong with my copy, and unfortunately their wasn't,
I have herd a lot of albums excessively loud, because of the loudness war, but they are not distorted as well.(search for loudness war on youtube if you have never herd of this).
I think its inappropriate in any kind of music, including rock, but its very inappropriate in so called easily listening, and distortion is extremely inappropriate for this type of music. Do not buy if your stereo is worth more than £50!

when i first saw this CD i saw that it was awesome! i bought it for my sisters birthday, and she absolutely loved it. the way amy winehouse sings her lyrics is just incomprehendable, the truth she speaks and the way she says it!! all the songs on the cd are amazing in their own way, as each one is a little bit different. i haven't had to listen to all these songs yet but what i have heard is just epic!

as albums go, this song is on my 9/10, but mind that i am very picky when it gets to music

All the songs on this CD are excellent, not only does Amy Whitehouse have a great voice but she sings from the heart. The lyrics reflect the well publicised problems that Amy has experienced and she delivers the songs with true feeling.

a great album definetly one to listen too all the way through. all the songs are great and have a real blues sound to them.

i think this album is one one the best Ive ever heard not only has she got a good voice but the songs are good too.they really make you feel warm inside like your in the song i haven't got a bad word to say i loved it and cant wait for the second album.

This is an excellent cd and i would definately recommend it anyone. Her song writing comes from the heart and the melodies are fantastic. Great to listen to in the car and sing along to. If you liked her first album 'Frank' you will love this one. This is my favourite cd at the moment and will be for some time. I believe there is a special edition out of this at the moment with the Mark Ronson collaboration 'Valerie' on it. Which may be worth checking out. I give it 5 out of 5.

i dont know why people wouldnt give this album 5/5 its brilliant, every track is beautiful. even my mum likes this, and thats the beauty of amy winehouse, despite her public troubles her music hasnt suffered. top album, great production from mark ronson and salaam remi

Because I love Amy Winehouse's songs and her voice is absolutely amazing.
The cd itself sounds fantastic it plays just great.Excellent buy.
