24 - Series 1 - Complete (DVD 2002)

Having converted most of my old video collection to DVD I was thrilled to find this film gem in digital format. If you watch this in widescreen format, it really does the battle scene great justice; coupled with surround sound, you'll be gripped by the amazing cinematography. I would recommend the director's cut that includes scenes about the relationship between the lead character and his estranged wife and helps you to understand the motivation behind his decision. The run time is 183 minutes for the directors cut and 120 minutes for the cinema version. I was, however, disappointed by the lack of extras, which any fan of this classic would expect to be included. There's only a 20-minute interview with the director and other shot "making-of" vignettes.

There are many reviews for this boxset so I shall keep mine brief and to the facts.

To me, 24 is like the American version of Spooks but so more farfetched. Don’t get me wrong, 24 is well written and contains excellent acting but the story lines are, to me, not that believable. It’s a unique concept for a show to portray that events occur in real time and the ‘following events take place between’ the given hour but for me; it made the plots too farfetched which could detract from the enjoyment. And to be honest, that blasted clock got on my nerves towards the end of the series since they are more noticeable on DVD since on TV they faded into commercials.

Otherwise 24 is nothing short of an excellent piece of Entertainment, which really, should be the only thing that matters.
So what does take place between the hours of 24 season 1. Well, over 500 deaths, a 747 plane bomb/ crash, an election, numerous kidnappings, rape, more murders, sex, stabbings, cover-ups, accidental murders, affairs, betrayal, guns guns guns, guns for hire, infiltration, assignation attempts, torture, car chases, car accidents, a little more sex, pregnancy, secrets, confessions, and lies to name but a few. No one sleeps though for 24 hours but looks amazing – must be that LA sunshine.

There are no 'special features' like makings of, or behind the scenes footage on this boxset, apart from an alternative ending. Get 24, because it's 24! And you will certinaly enjoy it if like me you never watched it when it was on TV. Don't get 24 if you are expecting a believable take on a possible US government depatment.

It really is a clever story, only up to episode 8.!!!Have been getting right into it and the strong characters, it makes you think how twisted the Yanks are!

Jack must stop both with no help from hi employer , who he believes may be involved.The series plays out a day in the life of Jack, each episode being an action packed hour in the mans life. A must see series

Once you pop you can't stop. Each episode ends on a cliff hanger so be prepared to give up a good deal of your time once you start watching. Excellent dvd and something i would recommend owning.

i was always hearing about this tv show but had never seen it.decided to buy the first series from ebay and was hooked it must be one of the best and addidctive programmes ever made ive since bought series 2 3 4 and5

I am hooked on this series, it is so gripping and addictive, can't stop watching it.I bought it because i had heard so much about this series.

Before I bought 24 Series 1, I had no idea what this was about - other than I had heard other people rave about it. I have just watched it and really enjoyed it. It keeps you on the edge of your seat and you can empathise with the characters. I am now going to buy the other series!! Hopefully they will be as good.

This is possibly one of the most exciting DVDs I have ever watched. I have now watched all 7 series and am buying this as a present to get my son on the way.

i loved everything about 24 the main character jack bauyers is brilliant his a ctu agent who's job is to catch the bad guys normally terroist and usually becoming one of them and risking his life on many occasions each episode keeps you in suspense you can't wait for the next episode you can never predict what will happen next i have watch all the series and can't wait for the new series well worth watching

I promise you that if you see any two episodes of this groundbreaking series you will have to watch the rest. I purchased this after having started watching the second season on BBC2 and being very impressed, but I was not expecting the sheer quality of both writing and acting that I witnessed in this dvd box-set. Any epsisode I started watching, I had to finish, and then start watching the next as there always seemed to be a cliffhanger ending that had me wanting more. Without giving too much away, the basic plot is that Jack Bauer works for CTU, a government anti-terrorist agency and is assigned to protect a presidencial candidate from a rumoured assassination attempt. Whilst at the same time, he hears his daughter has gone missing with the two events seemingly linked. Suffice to say, there are too many plot twists to count and the mix of action and drama is ceaseless to the very end. I cannot recommend this title enough, and is worth every penny.

Loved the storyline, how it made me think i had it all figured out, then it changed. Really gripping from 1 episode to another. I bought it because it was recommended to me by my sister. Watched the whole series while on holiday in cornwall (2 episodes per evening).

Am never disappointed with '24'. My whole life is put on the back boiler for about 3-4 days solid until I've watched every episode as it is just so addictive. I recommend it, 24 is a must see DVD!

Yep, it's a bit over the top in places, would it happen like this in real life, nope, but hey, we don't watch TV to be bored. Get ready to miss out on a nights sleep as you'll want to watch all 24 episodes without a break. Love it, love it, love it.

This series has a right wing reputation: in that it is said to promote Machiavellian or violent means to justify the end of maintaining US freedoms. The series appears on the face of it to glorify torture as a means of successful grilling of terrorists, or in the name of urgency. There is no doubt that the viewer is swept along with the violent hero, and you soon want to root for him and his violence, whatever your political view.

However the opposite is also true. The violence is exaggerated to the point of lampoon at times and there is much to undermine any rightwing message; there is a black president whose initial dignity and honesty surely represents our hope for an anti-war Black US president at some point (Obama?); corruption in the government is there to be punished throughout the series. Politically, it's ambiguous. So just enjoy it.

Hope you have got a spare 24 hours because once you start watching Jack and Gang from the CTU you can not wait and you put in the next DVD to see what happens next - All I can say is that I would not want to be Jacks Daughter ! Can one person be that unlucky ?
Season 2 is well worth a watch after you have got over the 1st Season.

Totally addictive viewing, I was hooked after 2 episodes and stayed up all night because I couldn't turn it off, I have since bought every series and looking back series 1 was my least favourite...they get better and better. Keifer Sutherland plays a lovely part as Jack Bauer, my girlfriends want to marry him & my boy friends want to be him!! One of the few series that men and women enjoy equally - I'd say that's really hard to find so it's ideal for couples.
