Pretty decent B-grade zombie flick

For some reason, whenever a director graduates from film school the first genre they choose for their debut film is almost aways a horror film. The blood-and-guts B-movie genre is certainly a saturated one, and there are no shortage of competing zombie movies out there, which means that in order to stand out from the crowd, this movie has to be very special indeed.
Taking into account this is Jason Murphy's first film, this is not half bad. The acting (most of whom are unknowns) is surprisingly good, and even the script is pretty decent - some of the jokes actually are half-funny. The CGI special effects are average for a movie of this genre (ie. dodgy), with perhaps the only downside that being a film set mostly in a strip club with the poster tagline being "Strippers vs Zombies", there isn't actually much nudity in this movie.
The plot involves a scientist is in the process of experimenting with a cure for cancer, when a crackhead comes around to get some quality drugs. For some reason, this guy mixes the scientist's concoctions and creates some new superdrug which turns people into zombies. Eventually, a group of strippers, prostitutes, their friends and a pimp are all holed up in a strip club fighting for their lives against a horde of the undead. Original it isn't, but it is a fair bit of fun, and at less than 80 minutes running time rattles along at a good pace and doesn't have time to outstay its welcome. Jason Murphy clearly has talent. Given a decent budget, he could go far in the industry. Some of these 'zombie' sub-genre films are so bad they are good, but this film isn't that bad in the first place. It's pretty decent. 8/10
