Adventure Is Waiting
Actor-turned-director Jon Favreau (Elf) delivers another work of intelligent, charming family fare with this space adventure, based on the book by Chris Van Allsburg, the author of Jumanji.
Older brother Walter (Josh Hutcherson) and the younger Danny (Jonah Bobo) are constantly at war with one another, bickering over the mediating voice of their long-suffering father (Tim Robbins). When he has to go to the office to replace some papers the boys destroyed in their crossfire, he leaves them in the dubious care of older sister Lisa (Kristen Stewart), who is sleeping upstairs. When Danny discovers an old board game called Zathura stored in the basement, his excitement is lost on Walter, who has no time for such old, boring toys. Soon, however, the game becomes impossible to ignore, as the boys are transported into space, and one of them must win in order to make it home again. Each turn brings a new, often dangerous, surprise, and the boys are faced with a murderous robot, an explosive meteor shower, and lizard-like aliens, while poor Lisa is cryogenically frozen early in the game

This Excellent Film from the world of Jumanji is a True hit for any Child!
My 2 Daughters have watch this Over & Over again, they love it.
This Great Adapted Film with Super Special Effects is based on Heart-Racing Science Fiction adventure about 2 Brothers who while staying at their Fathers for the weekend, stumble across an old Board Game in the Basement. Once the Brothers start to Play, there is no turning back as they are propelled into Deepest Space. this is one of the best family films that i have seen for ages. my two kids are 11 and 6yrs and they were both quiet and interested all the way through, the only time they said anything was when the two brothers were fighting and each looked at each other and said 'thats you'! the adults were kept entertained as well which really is a bonus these days! a good good film.

Okay so this was billed as Jumanji in Space and, essentially, it is exactly that. Jumanji in Space; two kids left alone in a strange big old house who find a board game. When they start playing the game, in this instance a fifties tin made Space Race, the events of the game start impacting their immediate reality. Wether that be meteor showers, gravity fields, killer robots (voiced by the awesome Frank Oz - the voicebox behind both Yoda & Miss Piggy), aggressive slimy aliens that have a penchant for Gerbils, stranded astronauts or frozen sisters. This pair have to endure it all to get to the ultimate goal; reach Zathura and return home in one piece.
Suspend belief and prevent yourself from looking for plot holes and instead just sit back and enjoy a good film. Some acting gravitas is brought onside by Tim Robins, but the kids themselves in this movie put in sterling performances anyway. There are no sacharrin sweet hollywood brat performances here, just believable 'real' kids locked in a bizare situation. A funny, harmless and intensely watchable and likeable film for all the family.

My son told me that he had seen this movie and it was fantastic, I was sceptical because I didn't really like Jumanji and knew it was of the same ilk. However, we borrowed it from his friend and we all love it! It has everything in it that makes a great movie, good effects, jam packed with action and suspense and a message to children about family values too. Would definitely recommend it :-)

Having loved Jumanji, I felt that this would be a great buy and I was right. It is a fun and entertaining film that works the imagination. The special effects are great as are the actors and I think it is fun for children and adults. I would certainly recommend it.

My son & his friends, loved this movie. Full of excitement all the way through. Kept them glued to the tv till the end, and even stirred up conversation on how cool it would be to have a game like ZATHURA.
Enjoyed far better then Jumanji.
My husband also enjoyed it.
Decided to buy it due to my son's infatuation with Space, Dinosaurs and rockets and robots.

i liked jumanji,and with the advertisement for this film saying it was in the same vein,i thought this might just be as good,but i was disappointed,i got bored with it,maybe it was because robin williams wasn't in it to liven it up

Billed as "Jumanji" in space, it never really reaches the heights of it's predecessor, despite superior effects, mainly due to the casting. The kids all are all slightly annoying leaving little room to sympathise with their plight. The "twist" near the end doesn't add up. These moans aside, the film is still enjoyable to watch and is better than a lot of the rubbish produced these days. My kids were divided as to how good it was, with the youngest (10) the most upbeat. All in all, you could watch better, you could watch worse.

I bought this for my 8 year old son as he loved it when we saw it at the cinema-he loved it on DVD too although of course the effects aren't quite the same-I now need a cinema sound TV!

fun sci-fithis is a really well made film, if you havent watched the making of it yet, then please take the time to watch the extra's. real action makes this film well worth while. The use of C.G is minamized and the use of live action is just whats needed.
The air 'canon' is a great little toy which is used early in the film, if you havent used one yourself, get one! I have one and its just great fun.
The whole concept of flying around space in your own home is fun.
I thought the girl in the film could have had a more interactive role, she tends to do a lot of panicking when she is active, other than that, this film is just good fun well proportioned, with suspense, excitment and lots of laughs, suitable for all.
