I recently bought this Zanussi ZWF1221 Washing Machine because my old Candy CN-450's door seal was falling apart and Candy needed about 2 months to get a replacement part! Plus, the drainage system got clogged, was made out of cheap plastic and broke!
After reading lots of reviews of washing machines I decided on this one. I bought it for 230 pounds at Dixons which included delivery as well.
I made a couple of observations about choosing washing machines, of which I've already bought 3 in the past 5 years so I have a bit of experience.
1) The drainage system including filter is very important. Its quality and ease of handling will serve you well in worst case scenarios where it all clogs up.
2) Choose a washing machine with a big drum (6kg) and at least 1200 spin rate. You can do more laundry and save water as well.
3) Brand names DO mean higher quality. Miele or Bosch for example will last you 10 years without problem. I've had a Miele for 13 years now (in my old home) and it's still working as though I bought it yesterday.
Bearing these things in mind let me tell you why I chose the Zanussi.
Electrolux has superb quality even in its lower class products.
The drum size is 6 kg and spins at 1200 rpm. The average cycle is about 140 min for whites and 30 min less for color although there is a quick 30 min cycle as well. The machine is quiet, and most importantly, it gets your clothes very very clean.
The drainage system and filter are superb, it comes with a hose that you can pull out if you want to empty the drum manually (eg. in case of clogged filters) so there won't ever be spillage! The filter itself is well designed as well, though it is made of plastic the inner part rotates independently of the outside knob. This means that even if the inner part gets clogged with bits of fabrig or other stuff you'll still be able to turn the knob and thus take the filter out. THIS was NOT possible on my old candy machine and it's one of the reasons I shall never ever buy cheap candy again. They have awful service (2 months waiting time for a door seal??)
With this machine, you are also able to choose the spin rate: 500, 900, 1200 or no spin or just rinse and a ton of other options. There's also time delay up to 12 hours.
Overall, I must say that unless you are willing to spend 400-500 pounds on a Miele get this machine! Its cheap, its great quality and it'll last long!
