Album Notes ZZ Top: Billy Gibbons (vocals, guitar); Dusty Hill (vocals, bass); Frank Beard (drums, percussion). This is ZZ Top's tenth album.ZZ Top entered the '90s with what was billed as a back-to-basics release, 1990's RECYCLER, five years after its previous album. The trio abandoned the Top 40, platinum-paved path it had followed on such 1980's mega-hits as ELIMINATOR and AFTERBURNER, to return to the blues rock boogie that had made it one of rock's finest outfits. While there were still synths sprinkled here and there (though nothing as severe as its '80s output), there's no denying the greatness of the big rockers "My Head's in Mississippi," and "Doubleback," which was featured in the Michael J. Fox movie "Back to the Future Part III."
Editorial Reviews 4 Stars - Excellent - ...a technical tour de force...constructed around an extraordinary variety of guitar textures.. Rolling Stone (11/29/1990)
..The grace of RECYCLER is band members Gibbons, Hill, and Beard drawing more on the sweat-soaked tactics of their pre-digital days...ZZ Top's Kool Kwotient is in their delivery, the sooty groan of Billy Gibbons' and Dusty Hill's voices, the snaky, shuffling beats.. Spin (11/01/1990)
...Less a return to form than a return to formula, this album finds the Texas trio putting its electronics on the back burner (or further back in the mix), and turning up the heat on basic blues'n'boogie.... Musician (01/01/1991)
