Will Young is probably the most succesful artist to be spawned from a TV talent show and arguably the nicest personality to boot.I bought this album unexpectedly as he would not normally be my music of choice but i felt unable to escape two tracks that are astonishingly good and seemed to catch me every time i turned on the radio.Buying the album for me was 'the scratch to relieve the itch' and once i had played 'leave right now' and 'friday's child' over and over again in true girly tradition i felt confident enough to explore the rest of the CD.Inevitably not all the tracks are as strong or as marketable as the two i mentioned but they do all bring something to the table.Mr Young is credited on several of the tracks as co-writer and you can pick up some of his personal experiences (or think you can) in the lyrics of 'going my way' and 'dance the night away'.As to be expected the vocals are spot on in his gentle tremoring way ,although it has to be said the low point of the whole album is the excruciating end note to an otherwise perfect 'love the one you're with'.Knowing Will's superb command of his singing voice as we all do, we shall have to forgive him for slaughtering this one solitary note and put it down to naive devilment!.All in all this album is well worth the purchase and stands head and shoulders above many of its contemporaries if only for Will's genuine talent and the continuity of the lyrical content and mood throughout.
