Album Notes Yes: Jon Anderson (vocals, percussion); Steve Howe (acoustic & electric guitars, vachalia, background vocals); Tony Kaye (piano, organ, Moog synthesizer); Chris Squire (bass, background vocals); Bill Bruford (drums, percussion).Additional personnel: Colin Goldring (recorder).Recorded at Advision Studios, London, England in Autumn 1970. Originally released on Atlantic (8283).All tracks have been digitally remastered.OK, so much of Yes's output was pretentious, overblown and over-long. However, that does not detract from the volume of adventurous and technically brilliant work that lies buried beneath the less enduring (and endearing) stuff. The Yes Album benefits from having been recorded before Jon Anderson's lyrics became embarassingly obtuse, and before the producers lost the use of their fader fingers. The album opens with a storming "Yours Is No Disgrace," Steve Howe excels on "The Clap," the band take "Starship Trooper" into orbit, and we all sing along to "I've Seen All Good People." It's really not all that proggy after all.
