Yentle

Taken from the book called 'The Yeshiva Boy' its the age old story about men not understanding woman.
Yentle wants nothing more than to study the Jewish scriptures but it is forbidden for woman to even buy a learned book, in fact picture books are the only ones peddled for woman! taught from an early age by her father her knowledge is vast and going to waste so when her father dies, she cuts off her hair and passes for a young man on her way to become a scholar. Fate takes an unexpected turn when she meets and gradualy falls in love with her study partner Avidor who takes her under his wing as the younger brother of his that recently died.
The story has shades of Dustin Hoffmans movie Tootsy who as a struggling actor can only find regular work dressed as a woman and who falls in love with a woman...
It has all the expected pitfalls and a few suprising turns, the singing is beautifull, and the story heartfelt. Alas the ending felt a bit flat and didnt make sense for my liking, needing a Yentle follow up movie of some kind to knit the loose ends together like, as a woman in a mans world where was all this obsessive studying taking her? that was my unanswered question so if, when you see the movie you find something I missed..please email me.
