Album Notes The Beatles: John Lennon (vocals, guitar, keyboards); Paul McCartney (vocals, guitar, bass); George Harrison (vocals, guitar); Ringo Starr (vocals, drums).Starting out as a sing-a-long vehicle for Ringo Starr on REVOLVER, "Yellow Submarine" became the inspiration for the 1968 animated feature film of the same name. Most of the soundtrack was composed and orchestrated by George Martin, but the remaining six songs were far from being Beatle cast-offs. George Harrison's two contributions, "Only A Northern Song" and "It's All Too Much" mark the adventurously experimental phase the Beatles were in at that time and dabble in woozy psychedelic shadings laced with orchestrations that continued to influence cutting-edge pop artists for decades to come. Along with the aforementioned "Yellow Submarine," other Lennon/McCartney compositions include the good-time, skiffle-flavored "All Together Now," the Lennon-driven rocker "Hey Bulldog," and "All You Need Is Love"--the unofficial flower-power anthem. | |||||||||||||||
Reviews The beatles them selves had very little do with the film but there were four new tracks, one being the great " Hey Bulldog", which is worth buying the cd for just this track alone. So if you have never heard this cd, (so where have you been), then buy it and if you really like it a lot then buy the DVD. Review ID: 10000000007803687 Was this review helpful? Report this review This one is not the best album they did but, if you are a real fan, you have to have it ! You can also buy the Dvd Movie, witch is an incredible animation, if you consider the year it was realised... Fortunately, Paul mcCartney is still alive and well and he continues to write very good songs. Review ID: 10000000005735776 Was this review helpful? Report this review Review created: 14/02/08(updated 15/02/08) by: A masterwork of weirdness with the original film score written by The Beatles and padded out by George Martin when they got bored. This is a whole raft of hippy trippy tracks that make up the film soundtrack and as such it is an interesting glimpse into the effects of LSD on the developing intellect. Only for the real Beatles fan or passing time traveller. Strangely the whole CD insert notes are given over to the wonderfulness of 'The White Album' and don't touch on the film at all! How any-one can think up a reason for 'Revolution Number 9' apart from filling up a chunk of the LP is baffling - they call it cruel, paranoiac, burning, agonised, hopeless, they got the last word right!
