Album Notes
Stereophonics: Kelly Jones, Richard Jones, Stuart Cable.Additional personnel: Nadia Lannman (cello); Richard Payne (accordion); Marshall Bird (keyboards). The Welsh pop trio Stereophonics' 1998 debut is a fine, hook-filled Britpop platter. While the clear highlight is the UK hit "Local Boy in the Photograph," an insidiously catchy though lyrically elliptical tune, WORD GETS AROUND contains several tracks nearly as impressive, such as "Not Up to You," with an absurdly over-prominent electronic snare that eventually gets overtaken by Kelly Jones' big, crunchy, Cheap Trick-like guitar. "Check My Eyelids for Holes" and "Same Size Feet," which has one of the catchiest choruses on the album, are also excellent, but perhaps the most affecting track is "Too Many Sandwiches," a sharp but sweet examination of a small-town wedding reception. WORD GETS AROUND is an exceptional debut.

...reliably guitar-laden tunes bomb along happily, their churny meaty sound is offset by Kelly Jones' jittery words....Grim, yes. but bearing it well.

  Best album by the Phonics

In my humble opinion this is the ultimate and best Stereophonics CD, wipes the floor with some of their later stuff. Raw and passionate with some of their most honest and well observed lyrics. Steal it, buy it, bid on it...just get it!

bought as i'm a big phonics fan,but didn't have this album. they don't do bad albums and this one isn't a let down. it's not the best as it's difficult to be better than just enough education to perform.

  Best of the Phonics

In my opinion this is the best Stereophonics album. A Phonics fan from the start, I love the more rocky edge this album has. Later albums became a bit softer and more mellow, but the diversity of this album stays with me over 10 years later and is still an album I could listen to over and over again. Can't actually say a bad thing about it, but that is just one persons opinion and tastes vary.

I loved the c.d. and had brought it when it first came out in 97' but had recently had a lot of c.d's stolen from my car and wanted to replace them. I like cds and even though I could of down loaded it I wanted an original copy.
It was in excellent condition and arrived really fast.
