The Wire - Series 5 - Complete (DVD)

If you have got this far I really dont need to sell it to you. The wire is the best drama series I have ever seen. But what am I supposed to do when Ive watched this? The wire has had me addicted for the last month or so and I have been watching it when I should really have been doing other stuff.

Series 5 is more of the same brilliance that made series 1, 2, 3 and 4 so unmissable. The same great acting, plot twists and gritty realism that made it so compelling in the first place.

Mixed Feelings
1- I love it but dont know what to do when its gone. (Like a true addict.)
2- The wire paints a crappy, grim, dark picture of the world we live in. I know Baltimore is across the pond and not leafy kent or yorkshire, but you only have to read a british newspaper headline to realise that England isnt entirely free of drugs, guns, violence, corruption, political sleaze and there you have it.

The Wire is immersive, addictive and all too real. Buy it.

I'm a big fan of The Wire so I had to watch the finale to the gritty end. While other commentators were disappointed in its shorter story arc than other series, I felt it delivered. You got to see all your favourite characters again - anti-hero Omar, Prop Joe, Marlo, Snoop & Chris, Michael and Dukie, the flawless Andre Royo as Bubbles, so solid Bunk, be-bop cool Lester Freamon, the maturation of Carver, the duplicity of Herc, pretty politician Carcetti, survivor Clay Davis, stiff Cedric, career-conscious Pearlman and of course, Mc Nutty the rebel spirit - going out on a job-costing limb to get his case funded.

All that set against the new storyline of print media - how they miss the best stories, the usual jostling for position in the corridors of Power - and there's more than enough to break your heart, entertain as well as inform. Has an US city of the late 20th century ever been dissected this thoroughly before ?

Absolutely unmissable! This is what TV should be doing!

If you watched and enjoyed The Shield, this will seem a little slow to start off with but the characters grow on you and it soon becomes a gripping series - sadly only five seasons long. It is actually better than the blurb leads you to think because many characters continue through all of the seasons meaning that they can be very well developed. Just like the Shield you will find yourself supporting some of the less honest characters.

A very good season keeps the action from the 4 previous season that came before it alive. Not to give anything away but it's a really good season to all wire fans highly recommend, must watch, must buy, must own. 5 stars

Fantastic story line, great acting, superb camera work and one of the best series to have come out of america since Hill Street Blues.
Grips you from the start and involves you with the characters - even if they are psychopaths you are sad when they die.

Fantastic series all the way through. Great characters and such a shame it has now finished. If you enjoyed the other 4 series its a given you will like this one. A must.

By far the best bit of series drama I have seen. Covers all the major themes about life and so good for individuals and teachers teaching politics and management. Very good as one examined why different character took different courses of action

This is the best TV series ever made.

I watched an episode on chrsitmas day 2008, by Jan 4th, 2009, I had purchased and watched every episode.

And I dont even like dramas.

This is quite possibly the best TV show ever made. How none of the terrestrial channel in the UK did not pick this up is a mystery!

As the final installment of a fantastic series comes to an end it doesnt disappoint.If i can be totally honest this is probably my least favourite series but is still worth every minute of viewing,certain aspects made me wonder where things were leading such as the fabricated serial killer created by Jimmy mcnulty,but there were reasons behind his theory,also previous serieses were focused around the streets,the law enforcement side and also the political side.With this series the media are introduced which at first i wasnt particularly keen but eventually grows on you,also this series is slightly shorter with ten episodes in total,but episode ten is an extended special.This is television at its best and not to be missed.
