The Wire - Series 4 - Complete (DVD)

this series is great it reminds me of the film new jack city, its harsh and very real like story lines of young kids growing up in baltimore's drug infested streets and the problems they face on a day to day basis aswell as getting an insight to how the police of the city deal with drugs and voilence. various stroy lines from police officers, criminals, drug dealers, kids, and politicians. the wire has a bit of everything and to be honest you wont find a better series to watch! great stuff

The Wire series 4 : excellent if sometimes difficult to understand view of the drugs trade in Baltimore. HAD to see 4th series after watching the first 3 : scary to watch, but worth the effort!

Season 4 of The Wire takes us once again to Baltimore and its seemingly insurmountable drug problem. The series focuses on the children and school system of the city, showing the problems faced by teachers and mentors in trying to deal with children who are growing up too fast. Marlo Stanfield becomes the drug kingpin, and his portrayal by Jamie Hector is carefully nuanced and truly menacing. The series does become more soapy as it progresses, it's nowhere near as good as the ground-breaking first series, and the massive coincidences grate sometimes, but the acting and characters make it work.

I was given all 5 series but series4 had a disc missing,so i searched ebay to try to locate the missing disc.To my surprise i was sucessful and the quality and price were excellent.

Great series probably one of the best in recent past. I have been hooked since episode 3 of season 1. Took to then to get into it but then hooked on the characters most of whom take you through to the end of season 4. It's gritty but isn't some aspects of real life? Can't wait for season 5.

Any seasoned fan of The Wire is not going to be disappointed by season 4, some have claimed it was the best. 'The detail' continue to battle hopelessly against the drugs war as before, this time much of the series is focused on the public school system, which is failing the kids though dire lack of funding, a stubborn refusal to set classes and pointless statutory testing. We see Bunny Colvin working on a project with troublesome kids and Prez. training as a teacher, whislt Carcetti runs for mayor against the odds. A typically bleak ending as Marlo and his crew literally get away with murder. My only disappointment was there was a notable absence of my favourite character McNulty, however he's back on maverick form in the next season. I loved it, so will you!

In the UK paper today it wrote that the TV Presentors thought it was to complicated for British viewers and last week while on a small Island I was reading a heavy book on US Political Theory. The example given was about the wire where no one ever seems to gain out of a situation. Thinking this is a must get set of DVDs espcially thinking about things like the bailout of GM and other complex matters. Yep worth selling your shirt for.

Was hooked from Episode 1, Series 1 and have now progressed to Season 4 which doesn`t disappoint, although a couple of scenes were too brutal for me to watch. It`s all about the kids this time and without giving too much away, on an emotional level, it`s quite heart-wrenching at times - the acting is so good from everyone involved it`s almost like watching a documentary. But my all time favourite bandit, Omar, shines, especially in his turquoise silk pj`s!(and without them!)Needless to say I didn`t look away at those scenes!.

Intoxicating, rivetting, totalling addictive television at it`s best but bad,bad scriptwriters ending on Season 5. WE WANT MORE!

I am addicted to the wire, each series is like a visual novel. Takes a couple of chapters/episodes to build the story and introduce the characters. Then the plot lines are interwoven and the whole story is played out from each characters point of view. My personal opinion is that the wire keeps getting better and better as though the writing team's confidence is growing with each series. As my title says, If you have got this far then I really dont need to sell it to you. Expect more of the same great action, great acting, sex, drugs, good music, violence and corruption all in fair measure. Enjoy!

Gripping, edge of seat stuff with fully fleshed characters. Both sides of the law are treated sympathetically. We not only see what, but why. This is what TV should be.

This is the best TV I have ever watched. It is moving, at times funny, often sad and always engaging. The story line follows 4 young lads and takes education as its theme. Learning weaves through all the different characters, from Snoop, Herc, the kids Omar, as such it stimulates questions and understanding about how we learn and why we may make the choices we do. If you are reading this review you have probably seen the previous 3 series, if not start at the beginning you will get more from this series. Having said that the quality of the story and acting means you can be engaged at any point in the series.

Just what you'd expect - you wouldn't be here at season 4 if you didn't already know how good the Wire was, so all that's left to say is that, yes - unsurprisingly - it hasn't burnt out...

it's a great series,good entertainment,it's a follow on from the other series and very well produced giving a good insight into the characters.

After enjoying the the whole series, I felt this season in particular really excelled. Unmissable TV drama, no Emmys or Golden globes for these guys because they tell it how it is. No American Dream BS here.

The Wire continues to excel in presenting an all too realistic view of the harshness of Baltimore's inner city. This season Dominic West takes a back seat as McNulty returning to a radio car instead of working Homicide. Instead this season focuses on the school system in Baltimore along with the continuing rise of drug kingpin, Marlo Stansfield.

Razor sharp scripts, terrific acting and the backdrop of Baltimore make The Wire the best thing on television. True dat.

I urge u to buy this if youre considering it, u will not regret it.The wire is consistently great from season 1-4(make sure you watch from the 1st series)
Ive yet to watch the 5th series, but cant wait for it!!
The fouth series is one of the best,fantastic script,and classic characters.

We have had the enormous pleasure of watching this whole series on DVD over summer and what can I say?...Well this is a masterpiece. I cannot imagine anything surpassing it. Well nothing I've experienced on screen has come near the brilliance of this work of art during the period the series has spanned. Indeed nothing I've seen on any screen, ever, has come very close. The writers talents have been compared to Dickens which although appropriate does not do them enough justice because these are writers of our time. I would go further and say they are the Shakespeares of our era. A truly breathtaking achievement.
