The Wire - Series 3 - Complete (DVD)

the wire is an epic, dickensian trawl through the streets of baltimore. the stories of everyone from the lowliest junkie to the fat cat politician and the police inbetween are depicted in tales that unexpectedly - yet completely naturally (the wire is never contrived) - intertwine. definitvely and demonstrably the best work HBO has yet produced. I love the shield and the sopranos but the wire transcends both. It's never artificial, there are no fantasy sequence flights of fancy, the wire is social commentary wrapped up in an utterly absorbing, at times almost overwhelming, drama. take a look at metacritic.com if you need further encouragement. nothing else on there has such a high rating and it's with good reason. the wire is a towering achievement.

The overall Wire Series is the best US cop series for years. Starting with Series 1 it paints a compelling and exciting story of real police work. Rather then compressing a case into 40 minute episodes, it shows how real police work builds a case over the series.

this is brilliant if you watched 1 and 2 this just brings everything together, no one is safe. dont wana give the story line away but its so good word cannot explain. everyone is screwing everyone. definately worth buying. and keeping forever. you will watch it again and again. it quite emotional aswell not in a girly way but some part really hurt.

The Wire is quite simply the best piece of TV I have ever seen!
At 43 years of age you think you have seen everything that's good and then this comes along and fills you with hope for the future of TV.

This is why it is good.

The characters are engrossing.

The acting is just amazing.

The writing is excellent.

You must watch series 1 and 2 first but 3 was the best for me.

You just can't help but feel for all the characters goodies and baddies.

GENIUS TV AGAIN FROM HBO! if like me you are in to Sopranos & The Shield you will love this. Season 1 was good, Season 2 was very good but this really is addictive TV and takes the WIRE in to the same category as Sopranos & The Shield, Some classic scenes in the later episodes. BUY IT NOW!!!!

I really love The Wire becaue it works slowly through a story and really lets you get to grip with the characters. Whether you like them or not - you understand where they're coming from. One tip - watching with subtitles really helps!!!

I thought the first series was the best, but this remains of great quality in both subsequent series..

I love the Wire and it was very affordable so I decided to treat myself to it although I'd already seen it I wanted to have a copy for keepsake.

I disliked the fact that I never received it and ebay allowed the seller to operate fraudulently from a PO Box address.

It keeps getting better! This sees a return of the Barksdale crew being the object of the task forces efforts. Old faces still weave through and ends are tied up - simply wonderful.

After a dissapointing second season, the third season is back on brilliant form. All the best characters are back. The acting is just as strong, some dark moments and some very funny moments. Cant wait to see the next season

Series 3 kicks off with some new faces but the same gritty dialogue and fast paced episodes give you what you expect from The Wire Series 3.

How would one follow the sheer thrill of series 2 of The Wire? Maybe try and wrap up some of the storylines from series 1... Series 3 doesn't quite hit the same high mark that series 2 did, but it hits higher than most of what was on TV back then, and now.

No discussion; if you've seen 1 and 2, get 3.

I'm half-way through this series and i'm finding it gripping although i think so far i like the series 2 the best but they are all extremely good. It's such a shame they didn't make another series but who could possibly replace dominic west now?!

What sets the wire apart from the usual run-of-the-mill crime drama, like Law and Order or CSI, is that it follows the timeline of one particular case around the drug syndicates of Baltimore. Throughout 5 series, the sheer depth of this programme will keep you hooked. Without doubt the best crime drama/documentary series on TV.

It has a wonderful pace to the plot and character development and a harsh realism. Excellent writing and acting. A fully rounded series that leaves you hoping that they will carry on and on. A must see.

Ok, so I'd heard all the talk about this being the best TV series ever made and having had series 1 sitting around on DVD for a while I finally took the plunge a couple of months back.
Well, I'll say it now - it's not the best TV ever made, (I can hear the gasps of incredulity!), but it is consistently good and outstandingly so at times.
Series 2 is my favourite so far - (currently I'm mid way through series 4 with 5 waiting). For me, series 3 was a little disappointing, given the high standards this show has set for itself. The introduction of the political element to the storyline although fascinating in itself now means the cast of characters has grown to such an extent that many get little actual screen time and seem to be a bit superfluous - which is a shame as there really aren't any weak characters and you therefore want to spend time with all of them.
I could go on but I don't want it to sound all negative - by most standards this is still on another level and by now you will be hooked.
In conclusion I'd have to say only start series 1 if you're prepared to fork out for the full set!

Gripping, edge of seat stuff with fully fleshed characters. Both sides of the law get sympathetic treatment. This is what TV should be.
