This is a wonderful film which takes me back to the days of my daughter's youth.
I love the voices and the way that Toad manages to get into trouble at every turn.
David Jason voice is great and he is charming as Toad.

I had a 20min VHS video recording of the latter part of this production dating back to the early '80's and played it recently to my 2 year old grandson. I was amazed that the production still held the same magic some 26 years later and was very happy to discover it was now available on DVD. This has since been played over and over again to the deleight of my grandson. A masterpiece in voice over animation. A very special thanks to all the cast, especially David Jason( Mr Toad ) 100% recommendation.

  Charming adaptation from Cosgrove Hall

I remembered this with great affection from my childhood. It's a charming, excellent stop-motion adaptation of the book. This is the original feature film. Cosgrove Hall studios (who also made the "Danger Mouse" and "Count Duckula" cartoons, and the beautiful stop-motion "The Fool of the World and the Flying Ship") went on to make four Willows tv series and another film in much the same vein. British celebrity spotters, watch out for David Jason as Mr Toad. Other voice actors include Sir Michael Horden, Brian Trueman, Richard Pearson, Ian Carmichael and Peter Sallis.

Wind in the Willows is a classic story and one of my mum's favourite stories. The animated version, in my opinion, is fun, entertaining and beautifully made. As my mum was coming to visit for a few days, I decided to buy it so that we could relax together one evening and watch it, and we both thoroughly enjoyed it.

  GOOD OLD-FASHIONED ENGLISH
Review created: 05/04/07

The reason for the title I have given this review is that I am a great lover of the English language and, although I enjoy and use street English, slang and latest buzz words, I often feel that we have lost the art in the beautiful, descriptive and overall richness of our wonderful language. Well here it is "in spades" in this delightful fairytale/fantasy of Mole, Ratty, Toad and Badger's adventures along the Edwardian countryside. Of course with voiceovers from Beryl Reid, David Jason and Michael Hordern, amongst others, that brings it home to one even more.

All young children will love it as all the animal characters have such human overtones. And, guess what, there's no swearing and no violence!

The only criticism I would make is that the animals are a bit wooden in their movements and it would probably have been better with animated characters.

It certainly rates near the top of the tree for my granchildren.

I used to watch this all the time as a child. I was thrilled to find it on DVD and, having watched, it has lost none of its magical charm! A great film version of the book and, in my opinion, much better than the later television series. Poop Poop.

The Wind In The Willows - Still a great tale!
Review created: 21/09/09

Receiving my copy of the Wind in the Willows on DVD through the post came with a huge sense of nostalgia. Not only did I love the animated children's TV series but this film of the original book was one of my all time favourites. In fact I received a hardback copy of the book as a christening present 33 years ago!!

On playing it for the first time what hits you is the poor image and sound quality, but then you have to consider that this film was released in 1982 and of course technology was not what it is now. I also own a copy of 'Watership Down' which suffers this same lack of clarity but it does not take away from what is a fantastic story in much the same way as this. I do own titles of the same period such as 'Bladerunner' which have had several costly digital remasterings over the years, but that would clearly not be cost effective in this case and the original format has simply been ported to DVD.

After a few seconds of seeing Mole doing his spring cleaning you forget about any audio/visual quality issues and become immersed in the storyline, not only will it take the older of us back to what was perhaps a more simple life but it is a story that new generations of youngsters will love and cherish.

This version is in my opinion superior to the later versions acted out by the likes of Steve Coogan etc. great as they were. The characters are lovable and beautifully animated and the actors behind the characters (David Jason, Richard Pearson, Ian Carmichael and Michael Hordern to name a few) do a fantastic job of bringing them to life.

A thoroughly enjoyable if short by today's standards (78 minutes) film.

This beautiful animation was a treat for all the family.

We sat down with cups of tea & cloudy lemonade and were pulled into a wonderful Riverbank adventure.

The eccentric English upper classes and there idiosyncracies are a delight to watch. Toadie is hilarious 'poop poop'! -And The Wildwood is down-right scarey - even for me and I'm 42 years old.

A must see!!

Although slightly old and a bit slow by todays standards, this is a fantastic film suitable for all ages. I used to watch this as a child and it is still just as captivating and heart warming as it was twenty years ago.
