Album Notes Reel Big Fish: Aaron Barrett (vocals, guitar, synthesizer); Scott Klopfenstein (vocals, trumpet, keyboards); Dan Regan (vocals, trombone) Matt Wong (vocals, bass); Travis Werts (trumpet, flugelhorn); Grant Barry (trombone); Andrew Gonzales (drums).Additional personnel: Coolie Ranx (vocals); "Hammond" Sam Avila (Hammond B-3 organ); Brandon Werts (percussion); True: 129 (scratches); The Gang (background vocals).Principally recorded at Sunset Sound Recorders and Music Grinders, Hollywood, California. The melodic ska horn section is still in evidence, as is the goofy, sarcastic humor of Reel Big Fish's debut, but this second album from the Huntington Beach, California ska-rockers actually does rock harder. There's serious guitar work here, some of it reminiscent of 70's guitar rock, and it aggressively leads the way on many of the album's songs, punctuated by hyperactive horn melodies, and with a couple of pauses for some true-blue ska (notably on "Song #3" and "The Kids Don't Like It"). Lyrically, Reel Big Fish refuses to take much seriously, expressing irritation ("You Don't Know"), jealousy ("I Want Your Girlfriend to Be My Girlfriend, Too"), and utter contempt ("Big Star") with the same sophomoric silliness that characterized TURN THE RADIO OFF. | |||||||||||||
