Disillusioned with the current crop of celebrity high-jacking and (un)reality tv? The West Wing has everything a viewer dreams of...Intelligent, witty, moving and thought provoking. Flawless acting and story telling. Deserved of the uncountable critical praise and awards it received in it's 7 year run. Television like this doesn't come along often. It feels a privilege to watch.

The West Wing - Complete Season 4
Review created: 13/08/06

A continuation of this fabulous series. Just about the best American series ever. If you have seen the previous series you will not want to miss this. One of the cover quotes I love is 'A brilliantly written fantasy about what The White House might be like if honour and intellectual brilliance ever trumped cupidity and mediocrity'. I have so enjoyed being able to watch this in my own time and my own pace (several episodes at once). A serious, sad and funny series.

  Best yet!

The fourth series of the West Wing has a strong cast with some notable guest appearances. The storylines are excellent and the main characters all have a part to play. The series climaxes with a kidnap and leaves the viewer desparate for series 5.

This series is so addictive and i dont know how i ever missed it when it was on T.V. It makes excellent viewing and the dialogue is brillant, it doesnt let you relax for a minute. You have got to make sure you have all your tasks done before beginning to watch as once you begin it is very hard to stop. One of the best series ever. We are working our way through them all.

  West wing DVD
Review created: 11/12/08

Started watching the first series on DVD having missed it on tv and am now hooked. Have been collecting the various series when availble from e.bay. Witty fast action you have to really keep up with it. Have seen series 1 - 3 twice as had missed so much on the first viewing. Just the type of program to watch on a cold snowy day sitting in fromt of a log fire. Wonderful. Can definitely recommend the whole series.

  The West Wing, series 4.
Review created: 01/12/08

Having seen the film, "The American President", the next logical step was to view "West Wing". Starring Martin Sheen as the President - who also appeared in the film as President Michael Douglas's State Secretary - this series follows the career of the president, his staff, and their experiences. A drama, which also provides much insight into the workings of the White House, but also often with comedic interludes, with light touches that make the dramatic events that much more realistic. A classic in its own right, there can be hardly anyone who has not seen episodes from this series. We have always loved it, as a family, and play it over and over. The only possible criticism I can make as an English viewer is that the characters tend to talk too fast, which, with the American accent, can sometimes mar the enjoyment.

  Sorkin's Best Season
Review created: 09/08/08
by:

Although the West Wing is enthralling from start to finish, from season 1 to season 7, from Rob Lowe's Sam Seaborn ignoring a persistent reporter in the first ever episode to the final scene of the show. However the fourth season has to be the best 22 episodes of a show to date. The story lines are compelling and believable and this season deals with the campaign to re-elect the president and the more daunting prospect of, what to do with 4 more years.
Before I get onto the good parts of this boxset i must deal with the bad which there will inevitably be in any show.
Firstly regarding the boxset, the lack of special features was irritating as it was with every single boxset of the west wing I have, which is all 7.
Secondly the west wing has been renown for cast just disappearing and the story doing nothing to explain what happened to them. this unfortunately happened to Rob Lowe during this fourth season. although not a huge gap is left following his departure, his playful banter and strong moral character was missing until Joshua Malina's character of Will Bailey filled the void.

Now the good.
For the entire series the writing has been stellar but it was exceptionally good during this fourth season in every single episode, especially the first 2 when president Bartlet gives a speech so moving and powerful that it is the perfect example of why we watch the west wing.
The addition of the character Will Bailey to the show also adds a little childishness to the serious atmosphere instilled by the rest of the cast which in someways is more entertaining than Lowe ever was.
Finally, the performances of all the cast in these 22 episodes were phenomenal and it is why the west wing will always be one of the all time greats in my mind until i forget about it when the senility hits and i am swearing at the orderly s for supposedly drugging my tea.

  Arron Sorkin's Final Curtain
Review created: 26/06/08
by:

This is the final season of the West Wing that Aaron Sorkin, the genius behind the show, wrote. It lacks the brilliance of seasons 1-3, but it still better than the subsequent 'Wells' years 5-7. It is a must see, it is the last year that the original cast are present and before it becomes a 'just another TV drama' type show.

Still very happy. DVD worked a treat and I will buy from this ebayer again. In fact if the product is more expensive on a comparative basis I would still go this route!

Thanks

Leaving behind the land of make-believe
Review created: 09/02/08

In any sane person's world, Martin Sheen was the real President of the US for a full two terms and was recently replaced by Jimmy Smuts - all this business with Bush et al is just make-believe soap in a depressing, Eastenders style.

I've loved this series from day one through all seven seasons and am slowly filling up with the whole lot on DVD, and that's the best I can say. It's a wonderful tonic for the disillusioned idealist.

Wonderful West Wing comedy & drama fantastic
Review created: 09/02/08

If you missed this first time round on TV, then buy the complete set. The west wing is absolutely fantastic - US comedy drama at it's best. If you liked Studio 60 On The Sunset Strip with Matt Perry and Bradley Whitford - you will LOVE this. Both shows were written by Aaron Sorkin and although West Wing isn't as LOL funny as Studio 60 it has an excellent mixture of comedy and drama that only seems to come from the US. The West Wing follows US president Josiah Bartlet and his team of advisors as they carry out the day to day business of running a country - from the 'West Wing' of the white house. There are many dry and LOL comedic moments, but also a lot of heartfelt poignancy when dealing with life and death issues. I know absolutely nothing about politics but you don't need to. In fact I have picked up several bits of 'useless info' since watching the series. I bought series one based on the fact that I liked Bradley Whitford from Studio 60. I was not disappointed. The main stars are: Bradley Whitford - Josh Lyman Deputy Chief of Staff, Martin Sheen - President Bartlet, Stockard Channing - First Lady, Rob Lowe - Sam Seaborn Deputy Communications Director, Richard Schiff - Toby Ziegler Director of Communications, Allison Janney - CJ Cregg Chief Press Liaison, Dule Hill - Charlie (President's Aide), Jannel Maloney - Donna Moss Assistant to Josh and John Spencer - Leo McGarry Whitehouse Chief of Staff. Absolutely unmissable!

THE WEST WING AT ITS PEAK!
Review created: 11/10/07

All the box sets of TWW are worth having! It is a great way to watch the series, season 4 is the start of Bartlett's second and last term. Sadly, Rob Lowe departs during this season, but the series remains as gripping as ever. One of the best series to come out of the US in a long time. I hope we will get something as good as this again soon!

  Best Drama series ever: FACT
Review created: 05/03/07

When the 7th series had finished I decided to buy the whole lot on DVD and see all the episods and seasons I have missed (as the TV channels cant keep it to a set time) and so I have been watching them none stop. Season 4 has one of the most atmospheric endings and hats off to the people that make the west wing for it. I recomend if you likethe west wing buy them all and start from the begging.
