West Side Story (DVD 2003)

This is still a moving and compellingly told story, in which fantastic choreography set to soul-stirring music blends seamlessly with realistic scenes. I showed it to my rather jaded Year 10 boys, who have been studying Romeo and Juliet, on which, of course, West Side Story is based. They enjoyed it, despite initial moans that I hadn't told them it was a musical. It was also great being able to skip scenes on the DVD.

What a great film!! If you ever get the chance to see it then believe me its worth it!!

Gripping and absolutely attention stealing form the first sequence, the cast are brilliant never fail to amaze with there musical prowess and talent. Go watch!

SINCE BEING A CHILD I HAVE ALWAYS LOVED MUSICAL FILMS AND THIS IS BY FAR THE BEST OF THE BUNCH FOR ME. ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC SONGS AND BEAUTIFUL STORY. IF YOU ARE THE RARE MINORITY WHO HAVE NEVER WATCHED THIS FILM, I SERIOUSLY RECOMMEND YOU DO. LOVE IT.

I am among the very many who consider this to be "The Greatest Musicals Ever" This is a superb edition and presentation. Excellent in every way.

I HAVE LOST COUNT ON HOW MANY TIMES I HAVE WATCHED THIS FILM OVER THE YEARS AND HAVE NEVER TIRED OF IT, IT MUST BE THE BEST MUSICAL EVER MADE IN MY OPINION. I LOVE THE MUSIC, DANCE CHOREOGRAPHY IS FANTASTIC AND THE STORY IS SO SAD. THE STORY OF TWO RIVAL GANGS , THE JETS AND THE SHARKS SET IN NEW YORK IS NOT SO FAR FROM REALITY IN THIS DAY AND AGE NOW WITH THE TERRIBLE KNIFE CRIMES HAPPENING AT THE MOMENT IN OUR COUNTRY. I PARTICULARLY LOVE THE SCENE WHEN THEY ALL GO TO THE DANCE, THERE IS SOME WONDERFUL DANCE ROUTINES AND THE SONGS ARE GREAT. ANYONE NOT HAVING SEEN THIS MUSICAL, ALTHOUGH IT WAS MADE YEARS AGO SHOULD WATCH IT - ITS EXCELLENT

This is a fantastic film and one that I studied for my GCSE in Music.
A superb film, great recording quality and is a timeless classic and is the winner of 10 Academy Awards.
The film is based on a smash Broadway play updating Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet to the 1950s era of juvenile delinquency, West Side Story stars Natalie Wood and Richard Beymer as the accidental lovers from two different neighborhoods and ethnicities. This 1961 Romeo & Juliet type musical by the choreographer Jerome Robbins and director Robert Wise who wrote The Sound of Music still remains irresistible. The film's best points are the highly charged and inventive song-and-dance numbers, the intense ballads and the moody scenes.

I've long been interested in the music of Leonard Bernstein and decided to update my DVD of West Side Story with this widescreen version. It was a totally brand new item and both picture and sound are absolutely 'spot on'. I have no reservations whatsoever about this purchase.

Had you asked me about some of my recent purchases of LPs on eBay, the story would have been very different. I believe that there are a lot of people out there trying it on by selling falsely described rubbish. You won't find this reflected in my feedback as I simply ask for my money back and leave it at that.
