Album Notes After finding a selection of tracks originally recorded in 1997 for a Pete Seeger tribute album, Springsteen decided to bring together thirteen session players to complete his first ever covers album. Known as a perfectionist when it comes to recording, 'We Shall Overcome' saw Springsteen record the album in a matter of days giving a live and loose feel to some of Seeger's most popular folk renditions. | |||||||||||
Reviews Review created: 09/05/07 by: Every track is good. the band are excellent (as you would expect. the album was recorded in a relaxed style. although all of the songs are traditional they have the added few lyrics of springsteen and his voice Review ID: 10000000003560614 Was this review helpful? Foot Tapping finger snapping it has the lot. As Bruce states Rock & Roll was here years before it was discovered. I play the CD every day and the DVD as often as I can. Its just GREAT. Report this review Review created: 06/12/06 by: I had booked a short break to dublin and decided to check if any decent bands were going to be playing while i was there. the last band i had seen was Orson and i was keen to banish that memory as quickly as possible. To my delight, the boss was in town and i quickly secured tickets for the opening night. What i didnt realise at the time was that bruce had parted company with the e street band and was now touring with the seeger session band on the back of the album. I hate not knowing songs when i go and see at band, so i decided to buy the album despite not having heard any of the songs on it. i was in for an unexpected treat. the album boasts 17 folk styled songs and with the unmistakable springsteen delivery and the excellent accompanying band they really come alive although its not until you see them live that you realise just how good every member of the band is. I would recommned this album to all bruce fans, even though it is clear step away form his traditional sound. The added bonus of a dvd featuring live performances makes it good value aswell. CD brings back the songs from hearing them live. thanks Review ID: 10000000002316718 Was this review helpful? Report this review Review created: 06/10/06 by: I love the style of music. Folk, bluegrass, even an Irish Traditional influence. "The Boss" and his band are excellent, especially as this was recorded live with no rehearsals. The reworking of these traditional tunes is just pure class.Highly recommended. Review ID: 10000000002027697 Was this review helpful? Report this review |
