The Epic of Waterloo

One of the finest historical films I have ever seen (apart from Zulu). The sets were exceptional in their accuracy. The battle scenes, unimaginably grandiose, and considering the lack of computer graphics in those days, evn more outstanding. The actors were superb. Christopher Plummer as Wellington was a bit foppish for my taste but Rod Steiger as Napoleon was faultless. The charge of the Scot's Greys was breathtaking when the film went into slow-motion. Jack Hawkins as General Picton did brilliantly considering he was fighting cancer of the throat at the time. A great pity I missed it on the big screen when it was released. Just because it's history, don't think it's boring. The only predictable bit was that as we were fighting the French it was inevitable we would win. Again.
