Classic Or Present, Both Are Good!
I've got the classic original 1 from the late 1950's & just seen this 1 about 1 hour ago on DVD again.
In this Movie the setting is United States, In the original it's London. That's why some things are so different to the ''i THINK i am a moviecollector'' people.
I think That Steven Spielberg did a excellent job on this movie. I agree with majority that it's not EXACTLY like in the H.G. Wells Novel, but Should it be?
It is BASED on it, it don't mean that it has to be exactly as in. ''Night Of the living dead'' is BASED on a true story as well, did zombies REALLY exist?
I like the way Steven Spielberg made this, In the original the FOCUS is primarily on HUMANKIND as in TOTAL and in aliens invading earth & all.
In this movie it is PURELY a circumstance that people have to deal with, just like when war has come to your country, it happened and now you have to deal with this.
Hence the beginning off the movie, a plain construction worker ( Tom Cruise ) on his job, getting home, dealing with his children that he has for the weekend.
A Plain Joe, not really some-one important as in the original where the story was around a scientist whose job it later becomes to SAVE the world!
Tom Cruise plays his role perfectly.
Steven Spielberg directs perfectly.
More drama then action, AND based on the H.G. Wells novel.
The Acting & Role of his little daughter screaming so mutch that is a bit irritating at times though.
The Role of his teenager Son why he wants to badly to fight against the aliens invading should have been more explained i believe.
It's a good movie, but it comes more to the movie ''Independence Day'' then to the original ''War Of the Worlds'' of the 1950's.
What i find rip-offs by the way, is how they created the aliens ( who drive the machines ) .
When you look closely they almost are identical to the aliens in Independence day, same eyes, same shape of head, just the legs have been adjusted to make them move on 3 legs instead off 2.
Also, they could have explained more as in HOW those machines lay so long underground and nobody ever found them, it's a bit unbelievable.
They Found dinosaurs of god knows how old, millions off years, but they never found this? a bit unbelievable.
It's a good movie, but it's still more a rental then a movie you should buy in my opinion.
A- Good, Could be better. 4/5
