Great Dvd a must to watch

Wanted is a 2008 action film staring Angelina Jolie, Morgan Freeman and James McAvoy, produced by Universal Pictures. It is actually based on a comic book miniseries.
This film was totally not what I expected and you definitely have to suspend reality in your mind to watch this film. Having never read the comic or even knew it existed until after watching the film I didn't know what to expect and it is definitely an interesting concept. I would kind of describe it as a bit like the Matrix movies, a bit of reality interspersed with moments of fantasy.

James McAvoy plays Wesley Gibson, described on the DVD box as a cube-dwelling hypochondriac with a cheating girlfriend and a boss he hates! I really like him as an actor and he plays this part really well, sweating when he gets in situations he doesn't like etc. He is kind of geeky which fit the part well but then when he starts to train and get more sure of himself he actually comes across as quite buff and tough! The scenes with his boss are great because she truly is awful and seems like your worst nightmare. The only thing I would say is that James puts on an American accent for this role which isn't great but that would be my only criticism of him.
On an encounter with Angelina Jolie in a supermarket he finds out that his estranged father is an assassin in a secret society called The Fraternity. His father has just been murdered and they are going to train him so he can avenge his father's death. Apparently he already possesses the skills needed but they need to be honed and he is taken back to The Fraternity headquarters where he is met by Morgan Freeman the head of the group. According to Morgan Freeman who plays Sloan the panic attacks that Gibson suffers is his heart beating 400 times a minute which sends massive amounts of adrenaline into his bloodstream, and if he can control that he can do anything.

Now, this is where we need to suspend reality a bit. Once Gibson is able to focus he can shoot the wings of flies, bends bullets to reach a target that he cannot see and also allows him to possess lightning fast reflexes and superhuman dexterity! They are some amazing graphic when he shows his skills and it is quite fun to watch. Parts of this film were actually quite funny. When Gibson finally realizes there is more to his life than working in a cube and that he can break away from the monotony he displays his new found freedom in the office to all his colleagues with great affect!
Angelina Jolie plays the part that we have seen her in before but one where she is magnificent and a part she really is born to play. Her character is called Fox, a gun toting, baddie killing assassin, much like her Lara Croft characters and the tattoos and leather only add to her portrayal. She again pouts a lot and has a bit of a mysterious past that adds to the story line.

The bit I found a bit too out there for my liking was when The Loot of Fate was introduced! It is an actual loom for making fabric on. The names of the targets for the assassins are apparently woven into the fabric and identified by binary code when an error in the stitching takes place. To me this was just plain weird and a little far fetched but then I guess most of the movie really is a little far fetched!
The film included a bath which healed people's wounds when they were submerged in it for a while.

If you like mindless action you'll enjoy this!

With a good cast and large budget, there is massive opportunity for lots of fun.

This film delivers guns, explosions and wicked effects!

Also the game 'Wanted: Weapons of Fate' is just as good!

Name didn't correspond to the film in my opinion. Strange start, commentary by McAvoy about his life throughout film. But good, fast action with as usual a twist in the plot towards the end!

If you watch this in widescreen format, it really does the battle scene great justice; coupled with surround sound, you'll be gripped by the amazing cinematography. I would recommend the director's cut that includes scenes about the relationship between the lead character and his estranged wife and helps you to understand the motivation behind his decision. The run time is 183 minutes for the directors cut and 120 minutes for the cinema version. I was, however, disappointed by the lack of extras, which any fan of this classic would expect to be included.

  WANTED DVD
Review created: 23/02/09

WANTED

Running time: 110 mins
Starring: James McAvoy, Angelina Jolie, Morgan Freeman, Marc Warren, Terence Stamp, Thomas Kretschman
Wanted is the action thriller of 2008. A hugely entertaining escapist fantasy, this is a film that grabs the audience by the throat and doesn't let up until the closing credits. It's easy to see why Russian director Timur Bekmambetov (Day Watch, Night Watch) is currently the hottest name behind the camera in Hollywood: this is possibly the best movie of its type since The Matrix.

Also making an American studio debut - or at least a debut as an action star if you discount his role in Atonement - is James McAvoy, who only enhances his already stellar reputation as the film's central character. McAvoy is Wesley Gibson, a dweebish company drone who begins the film as the world's most put upon guy. He has a cubicle-based job he hates, a boss who wants his behind on a plate and a best friend who just happens to be sleeping with his girlfriend. Oh, and he also suffers from pretty severe panic attacks. McAvoy is thoroughly believable in these early sequences, most of them filmed with a great deal of humour, but it's what happens next - a Neo-like transformation into one of the world's deadliest killers - that marks it out as a great performance.

All of this is even more impressive considering that he is in an ensemble with two of the world's biggest film stars in the shape of Angelina Jolie and Morgan Freeman. It turns out that Wesley has a secret skill which gives him gold star membership to the 'Fraternity', a shady mix of killers and weavers at one point there is a sort of talking loom which spins various yarns about who they should kill next). He has to undergo basic training, which sees him nearly die on several occasions, before he can be unleashed on his victims, notably the deadly Cross (Thomas Kretschmann), a renegade assassin responsible for the death of Wesley's long-lost father.

Or is he? The thing about comic artist Mark Millar's story is that while on the one hand it is utterly preposterous, it is also full of some rather intriguing and clever twists once you accept and believe the world presented before you. And - in Bekmambetov's hands - this is an extraordinarily rendered world.

From the opening assassination sequence and subsequent car chase to the concluding shootout, Bekmambetov never lets up: it's ultra-stylish, hyper-kinetic and a great deal of good old-fashioned fun. It's also a rare 18 certificate studio release, which makes it all the better: this is proper grown-up entertainment, this film looks very good on a home cinema projector.

  A very good film.
Review created: 09/02/09

A young man finds out his long lost father is an assassin. When his father is murdered, the son is recruited into his father's old organization and trained by a man named Sloan to follow in his dad's footsteps.

The anxious, clumsy and abused office clerk Wesley Allan Gibson has a hell and boring routine life: his obese boss humiliates him all the time and his girlfriend betrays him with his colleague and best friend during working period. When he meets the sexy Fox, Wesley is informed that his father was a professional killer that belonged to an ancient organization called Fraternity and killed by the skilled and powerful Cross, a hit-man that has betrayed the Fraternity. Wesley learns that his anxiety actually is a manifestation of his latent abilities and he joins the society under the command of Sloan. Trained by Fox, he changes his personality and attitude, being prepared to face the dangerous Cross and find a hidden secret.
A very good film. Angelina Jolie and Morgan Freeman

A good movie, however it was filled with pointless violence, bad special effects and a pointless plot that contradicts itself. Though it has a good cast, I would only recommend this movie to those who believe anything they see, are dazzled by stupid special effects and like women in leather.
Unfortunatly, my mother is one of these people and no doubt I will be forced to watch it again.

Enjoy.

This film amazed me really, i thought it would be crap but i was so suprised at the quality and the acting of this movie.

Not going into much detail but it starts like the matrix but only for the first 5 mins then this movie comes into its own, the movie takes a wimp and turnes him into a A class killer full of confidence, then the movie takes a unexpected twist and then the games on.

I have to give this movie 10/10 and rank this superb, the best ever movie i have ever saw and watched it twice in one night, do yourself a big favour and add this movie to your dvd collection.

An excellent "Hollywood" type movie..entertainment for entertainment's sake.It doesn't have a deep and meaningful plot.
The special effects are what makes this movie sensational! I love special effects but i have never seen anything as good as these...it is like a new league of special effects has arrived...:)
