Wall-e is last remaining robot left on Earth to clear up all of the rubbish and pollution left behind by the humans. Earth's entire population have all departed the planet to live in space after leaving Earth in such a terrible state that it has become toxic and inhabitable.
Wall-e is lonely being the only robot left after 700yrs since the mass exodus of humans. He has survived by repairing his broken parts with the few working parts of the no-longer functioning robots. One day a new kind of Robot- Eve, is sent to Earth form the human-inhabited spacecraft to search for any signs of life. Wall-e becomes fascinated with her being completely alone but for his little pet cockroach.
Despite their very different ways of functioning (opposites attract) Wall-e and Eve fall in love with each other but Eve is then returned to space after Wall-e presents her with a small plant growing in a boot as a gift. The plant represents that life can now exist again on Earth and Eve's mission is complete.
Wall-e clings to the departing spaceship to be with her and then a magical space adventure begins before the humans, who are now obese and completely reliant on technology to do everything for them, return to the planet and start civilization all over again from scratch.
Wall-e is absolutely breathtaking in so many ways. Almost no dialogue at all but for the small robotic sounds that are made, although humans do enter the frame half-way through the film. A very real issue of what destruction we do to our planet is raised, together with the irony of technology destroying our planet through making us so lazy and consuming so many resources and then helping us to rebuild it later. There's the touching fact of opposites attracting and that no matter who you are and where you are from you can learn to love someone very different.
Wall-e is a very moving film, and this is extremely rare for an animated movie, especially one which is based around a robot. It's an incredible achievement by Disney-Pixar and truly magical movie that everyone should appreciate. Absolutely brilliant and without doubt a 5-star movie.
