Vivitar V3188 Great little camera for no money at all

This camera I bought for my 9 year old daughter to use as she has been using her mums camera and I thought it time to buy her a camera of her own.
Camera is small and light and perfect for a young girl to use as the controls are very simple to use, I tried it out myself and keeping a steady hand gets you a perfectly acceptable photograph thats sharp and with good saturation for a 3.1 megapixel camera, Haven't tried the movie mode yet but looks to be able to get 20fps in VGA mode and 30fps in QVGA mode..These movies are recorded in .AVI format and the photographs are stored in .jpeg format, so most computers will have no problems recognising, playing and storing them..

You can up the resolution to over 8 megapixels using software interpolation but then the picture quality suffers quite badly, In my opinion the standard 3.1 megapixels setting is the one to use all the time, this camera also comes with a self timer and a built in flash but don't expect to be taking pics indoors at night as the flash is only good for about 6-8 feet max, any further than that and the photo will be underexposed and very dark.
This camera is designed for taking snaps in good light situations indoors and out, but not for low light level photography at night time, but then you would never buy this camera for that reason anyway, The 1.5"inch colour screen is easy to look at and read but does suffer from sun glare if in direct sunlight..
It also takes up to a 2GB SD card so storage of pics and Movies will be no problem, these SD cards can now be picked up very cheaply nowadays and can be had for around a fiver for a decent 2GB card at most outlets on the internet..

A couple of reviews I have read have slated the camera but unfortunately its the user who should have been reviewed in these cases, as incompetence in using a simple digital camera comes easy to these people..You know the old saying "A bad workman always blames the tools"

If your looking for a cheap reliable camera that takes honest average pictures then this is your bag, if your after superfine images of exceptional quality then go buy an SLR..
This would make a perfect camera to keep in the glove compartment of the car as its inexpensive and small so easy to tuck away.
At the end of the day you get what you pay for and this is true in this instance..

I do know one thing though! This camera is going to make a 9 year old girl very very happy indeed..

This is a great product! But it can be expensive! I'm glad I found www.freeiphoneforme.co.uk where I got mine for free :)

All I did was sign up and then completed one simple offer. I recommend the Lovefilm free trial offer as it only takes a few minutes to complete and its only a simple trial!

My personal recommendation is the Coral offer as it is quick, easy and only costs £5.

There are many other gadgets I got for free this way, such as consoles, iPhones, iPods, Plasma TV's and the list goes on and on.

Visit: www.freeiphoneforme.co.uk

I hope you enjoy the extra £££'s saved in your bank account from using www.freeiphoneforme.co.uk :)

A very lightweight camera, purchased this camera for my 10 year old son as a first digital camera. Good for him as its simple to use, lightweight & inexpensive.
Once hes used to the camera I will upgrade as the pictures are not fantastic.
Would recommend this for first time users.

This camera is incredibly small and compact. It's simplicity makes it an ideal first camera for a child. The controls are self-explainatory.

  Cheap and cheerful
Review created: 10/08/09

At the price I paid (£8.99) you can't complain but this is a cheap camera, cheap plastic, clicky buttons and average image results. Shutter time takes ages. I bought it as a toy for my 3 year old and thats about its mark I'd say. Overall, a bit of fun for the kids but don't take it seriously.

Good price but you get what you paid for.

I bought this camera to take to a festival because it actually worked out less expensive than a couple of throwaway cameras. It's a decent little camera with a good picture on the lcd screen and comes with all the gumph that you expect: case, strap, usb leads etc.

The only gripes I have are that it eats batteries and you need to select the flash every time you turn the camera on as it defaults to no flash when turned off.

Mine came with a 16mb card which wouldn't hold enough for me so I still had to buy an SD card anyway but they're cheap enough.

All in all, good phone but you do get what you've paid for.

  Vivitar V3188 digital camera
Review created: 15/07/09

I was looking for a simple camera for my wife to use on holiday. This was the one she wanted as it is a small compact style. It is simple to use. When it arrived, next day delivery, we found that it came complete with soft case(ideal for putting the camera in pocket), it also came with batteries and cd to load photos onto the PC. There was also a choice of color, black or pink.
Over all a good simple camera at a low price.

for the price this is a great camera. it zooms in to the picture great and pictures come out nice too. it automatically de-blurs the picture as you take it so you gets a great photo 90% of the time.
its also compact and light. the only thing which im still getting use to is the picture is close up without zoom so to get some pictures you have to stand way back.
for someone on a tight budjet i would highly recommend this iten.

At last a cheap 'disposable' digital camera!
Review created: 16/06/09
by:

These little cameras are much better than I expected. Brought for a child's birthday party they proved capable little cameras - as long as several restrictions were appreciated: not moving the camera immediately after pressing the button since shutter delay is long, taking pictures in good light, and charging the flash before using it inside. Colours were strong with lush greens although reds did seem to predominate in pictures of buildings. Simple controls including playback, video camera, and voice recorder modes.

If you keep your expectations low then this little camera for less than a tenner is well worth considering for children or disposable use, for example on wedding banquet tables perhaps?

Bought as a gift for an 8 year old's first digital camera , the camera is fine for what it is , a budget camera , but it is not any good as a serious camera .
