Various Artists - White Mansions (A Tale From The American Civil War 1861-65) (CD 1993)

Although I did not have an original of this I did have a copy on cassette when first issued. It is a fantastic story of the American Civil War. When I discovered it doing a search on eBay I just had to get it. I have not regretted the purchase as it was great to hear again after all these years. It has made me start searching for other long lost music that I had on vinyl but have never seen on CD. Only just last week I have made two more puchases that I am looking forward to hearing after a long, long time.

This is a highly instructive piece of work which should be acknowledged as a masterpiece.Congratulations must be given to the creator Paul Kennerley who has
summed up the war for Southern independance quite realistically whereas other work has tended to lean on one or the other attitudes. It would appear that the title carries with it the misconception:'A tale from the American Civil War 1861-1865'. In highlighting this error it takes nothing away from the concept of what Kennerley has achieved. Well done.

For lovers of Country & Western and American Civil War this is a hidden gem although music was written in the1980s it paints a vivid picture of the history of the Civil War, from both sides. Maybe not "pc" these days but the singing cast makes this an Western Opera par excellence. One For the ghosts of Dixie! R G Mowbray

Great song list. My dad used to have it on LP and was extatic when I bought this for him. Apparently a great CD.
