  Best NOW for a while
Review created: 18/04/06

If you've felt as I have that the NOW collections had lost the plot and catered only to teenage girls, read the track list very hard. True, there's some mindless pop on there (hence no 5 star rating) but there are also some very strong tracks on there. Nearly every music taste is catered for and the selections from each area are superb.

The first track is the stunning debut single from Corrine Bailey Rae. This song is going to be remembered throughout the year with its upbeat summery feel. The Pussycat Dolls while not my personal favourite are a strong representation of current urban music. The awesome Orson feature as do the extraordinary Ordinary Boys. The stonking return of disco in the form of Meck and Leo Sayer is welcome as is the retro-ness of Dead or Alive.

I could go on but it would take a long time to pick out the highlights of this double album as there are so many. Established greats like Texas, U2 and The Black Eyed Peas are shoulder to shoulder with great new talent like Kubb, Nizlopi and Fall Out Boy.

This is a fine album and a return to excellence for the Now series.

hey listen up....are you a muslim who listens to music
Review created: 11/10/06
5 of 11 people found this review helpful.

listening and singing to music create hypocrisy in the heart, according to islamic shariah law, if you are a 'muslim' or know or have any muslim friends please inform them that if they are true muslims they should not listen to music, punishment is in the grave and on the day of judgement according to hadith 'molten brass will be poured in to the ears of that muslim who indulged themselves in music', music is something which can lead to forbidden acts in islam.
if you are not muslim then this should be an eye opener for you because there are many muslims out there that do not act according to hadith, and islamic teachings of our prophet may peace and blessings be upon him, we too beleive in jesus (and moses etc...) we beleive that he will come back one day as the true messiah, i myself do talk to christians and jews etc, because after all we are all human,
so if you see a muslim down the street listening to music then you know he is not practising his religion correctly....

This Now collection is different from recent Now CD's in that this one offers a wide variety of music and some of the greatest songs composed since christmas.

The CD is a very good selection of music and in my opinion caters for alot of peoples musical choice.

I highly recommend it.

  NOW 63

I have been collecting the "NOW that's what I call music" collections for about 18 years. I started off with NOW 10 on cassette then a few years ago I started to replace the cassettes with CD's by buying themthrough ebay. I now have NOW 1 - 9 on copied CD's and NOW 10 - 64 on CD. It is quite a collection!
I find it is cheaper to wait a few months after the new cd's come out...then to buy them through ebay at a fraction of the new prices. I particularly like the vast array of music these days and the NOW series captures that vert well..though there is a bit too much dance and R&B on them for my personal liking, but in years to come it will be interesting to see how the muscic has evolved. I am looking forward for the next NOW Cd to be released! My friends think I am sad for continuing my collection....I keep saying I'll stop at the end of the next big number...and never do!

The history and greatness of the now album...

If you are young teeny bopping teenager or your a middle aged near man/woman nearing closer to your mid life crisis, The now album will always get you through your day or to/from work in that usual NOW toe tapping style.

For some reason the now albums have always been a success with all age groups as the mix of music that is current but contains of many different genre's to keep mum dad brother and sister entertained...well until the next one comes out!

Now thats what i call a review...

This cd was bought as a christmas present for my daughter, she is 11 and is now getting to like her music. The now cd`s give her the opportunity to buy a collection of single releases, put together on one disc, instead of buying individual single discs.I think that these cd`s give value for money, the contents are reasonably up to date relaeases and are enjoyaed by my daughter.

Best NOW Compilation for a long while
Review created: 16/05/06
1 of 3 people found this review helpful.

I used to buy the NOW cd's when I was young. I stopped buying them about 8 years ago, as the selection of songs were always aimed at the early teen's in my opinion.
I purchased NOW 63 on a recommendation from a friend, and it has been one of the best purchases this year. The music suits all ages, there are many more songs that everyone nows than previous years, when a lot of songs were mixed in that most people hadn't heard of, especially on the 2nd disks.
The line up starts with Corinne Bailey Rae's great catchy song "Put your records on". it continues with the likes of Pussycat Dolls, the Black Eyed Peas,Simon Webb and even Chico. The full line up is listed below.
I highly recommend you buy this whether you are in your teens or even your 40's there's songs for everyone.
Once you start to play it, you'll be up and about dancing around, and humming or singing along. The only things you won't be doing are being unhappy and pressing stop.

Disc One
1. Put Your Records On - Corinne Bailey Rae
2. Beep - Pussycat Dolls Feat. Will.i.am
3. My Humps - Black Eyed Peas
4. No Tomorrow - Orson
5. Boys Will Be Boys - The Ordinary Boys
6. Thunder In My Heart Again - Meck Feat. Leo Sayer
7. Say Say Say (Waiting 4 U) - Hi-Tack
8. You Spin Me Round (Like A Record) - Dead Or Alive
9. It's Chico Time - Chico
10. That's My Goal - Shayne Ward
11. Ugly - Sugababes
12. No Worries - Simon Webbe
13. All Time Love - Will Young
14. Because Of You - Kelly Clarkson
15. Amazing - Westlife
16. Hang Up - Andy Abraham
17. I Wanna Hold You - McFly
18. Ticket Outta Loserville - Son Of Dork
19. One More Night Alone - Friday Hill
20. A Night To Remember - Liberty X
21. If It's Lovin' That You Want - Rihanna
22. Woman In Love - Liz McClarnon
23. See The Day - Girls Aloud

Disc Two
1. JCB Song - Nizlopi
2. Nature's Law - Embrace
3. Advertising Space - Robbie Williams

42/43 and no monkey on it?
Review created: 29/04/06
1 of 5 people found this review helpful.

42/43 ain't all that bad, is it? 61 & 62 both had 43 hits and this one only has 42. Maybe track 43 should be the Artic Monkeys "I Bet You Look Good...". Still, i enjoyed it as I like different gendres and a few of my fav tunes are on there except The Artic Monkeys. Well I missed the freebie online before they were famous. Please, no hankichiefs as it does have Nizilopi breaking health and safety rules on a JCB. Ah, well ... Leo Sayer was longer than expected. So, you may be a little disappointed ... but I liked it. So, look closely at the track list and then look at other comps before buying.

I'm off on an expedition to track down those Artic Monkeys .. "Mussh - dogs!!"

  The weaker link
Review created: 24/07/06
by:
parsien ( 0 )

Every good chain has the odd weak link, and I have to say that No 63 may prove to be the Now series weakest. The trend towards making the collection so full of Radio 2 playlist material means that it has become more appropriate for Mothers or Fathers Day presents, rather than for the kids to buy as their Easter egg.

Of course there is the odd exception - you probably won't hear Wogan playing Son of Dork - but the fact that eight of the tracks owe their success in the charts to TV talent or reality shows, and another eight cover or sample old hits of the 70s/80s indicate the likely audience for much of it. There was a time when I felt there was too much dance and new rock included - now there's hardly any.

As far as topicality goes only seven tracks were still in the Top 40 on release date, much lower than usual, and quite a few were hits before even Now 62 came out. Just five No 1s are included, not counting the exhumed Dead Or Alive oldie, though this will partly be because the dreary Shayne Ward and Nizlopi songs hogged the position for longer than is normal these days.

It has to be said that most of the tracks did achieve the Top Ten, so the collection continues to serve its remit of refelcting the pop chart. It's just that, even more than usual, the best tracks are on albums that many people will already have and the rest would five years ago barely have qualified as album fillers.
