There will only ever be one Ian Dury.........

.....however, I think the assembled collection of artists on this cd do great justice to the music and lyrics that made Ian Dury such a gem. Having grown up with the original (does that date me?)the artists have managed to breath new life into the tracks without trying to replicate them, whilst maintaining their own individual styles making the tracks stand very well in their own right as well as being a tribute to the original album. It was hearing the Paul McCartney version of 'I'm partial to your abracadabra' that inspired me to make the purchase though my favourite now is probably 'Sweet Jean Vincent' by Robbie Williams. How different too is the version of 'Wake up and make love to me' for being sung by a woman? Sadly that copy was pinched from my car a few months later and I had not been able to replace it until I found a copy on Ebay. It may not be for purists but I think it should be given a well-earned chance and in fairness half of the success of Ian Dury was the Blockheads who are still giving their all on this album too.
