The second volume in Warp's electronic listening music series demonstrates why Warp continues to blaze trails while others have failed. Most of the artists included on these anthologies remain innovators within the electronic arena. Journeyman Richard H. Kirk contributes a pre-Sandoz slice of dub funk with "Reality Net," chock full of his trademark mouse-like burbles and skipping roto-toms while Beaumont Hannant's beautiful slice of slow, faux-ethnic techno, "Utuba," also percolates nicely. High marks go to Speedy J's chattering digital symphony, "Symmetry," Mark Franklin's spaced out beats that "Release to the System," and B12's audio metric architecture rendering of "Scriptures." ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE II is one of the few compilations necessary for anyone establishing a serious electronic music library.
