Unleashed/Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon/Kung Fu Hustle (DVD)

I'll set out my stall, I'm a massive Jet Li fan, Morgan Freeman and Bob Hoskins are 2 of my favourite actors, so what went wrong with unleashed? In my view it's because of the completely unrealistic storyline. Don't get me wrong, as a fan of kung fu and sci fi movies I am more than happy to suspend reality and just enjoy a movie but this was a real problem for me in Unleashed. Placing Unleashed in a modern Glaswegian setting and making everything else, bar the main character and story, gritty and believable just didn't work. That was a huge shame because apart from that it is really good. Bob and Morgan put in grade A performances, the stunts and fights are excellent (one of the best car crash scenes ever - Think 'Constantine')

Fantastic! And full of fantasy! This is a beautifully shot film. It's all in this movie, good v bad, honour, betrayal, love, hate, passion, pathos, humour. This film is full of atmosphere, from the cinematic landscapes to the beautifully detailed sets. It all combines to pull you in to the story. 5/5

Kung Fu Hustle - Bizarre, and brilliant. This is one of my favourite kung fu films. It manages to blend together so many different styles of kung fu film without looking messy or becoming a homage to any of them. The dancing scene at the beginning is a favourite of mine and from that moment I knew I was in for a treat. Realism, fantasy, comedy, romance and magic combine to make this a kung fu great in my book 6/5

All in this triple bill would have got a 5 rating if only they had set 'Unleashed' in a more believable era or location.
