The Unit - Season 2: Ranger On!
Review created: 19/01/09

The Unit - Season 2 is the real deal.
The seeds sowed during Season 1 are starting to grow into poisonous flowers: more challenges (and more secrets) are set to glue the Unit members (and their wives) into an enlarged family.
This Season fetures a lot of cliffhangers and discloses a powerful struggle, a deathly rivalry between the Military (the Army, in this case) and the Agency (the CIA, in its SAD branch, and in its Intelligence community): a rivalry that caughts the Unit in the middle and risks to crush its members and to shatter its families.
The Unit will be fighting for its real existence: the men, for their very lives; the women, for the safety of their beloved ones.
The six DVDs include some very interesting features as well as some impressives "Behind the Scene" documentaries and it's a must-have for any true fan of this most-successful action-drama TV show.

  The Unit, totally outstanding!

The Unit shows Ross Kemp what a special Forces TV show should be about. Not just missions and soldiers stories but the effects on family too. Season 2 is not as action packed as season 1 but still worthy of a watching. Some missions are great and some are odd but all help describe the characters involved in this show and lead to an awesome season finale! I cant wait to get hold of season 3!

The Unit a great series for Action adicts like myself
Review created: 20/08/08

Like many fans around the world, I was hooked with the first episode of the first season of the Unit. The American version of the British series Ultimate Force. This is a series of a clandestine unit only anserable to the President who do Jobs that nobody else wants. It's an intreging series and one for everyone. Season one Introduced us to Denis haysbart and the gang. It left us on a cliff hanger. Season Two goes into more detail with more episodes and even more action. With season three well on the way on British TV, I could say I'm hooked. Great story lines, great action and a great deal of testosterone. thgis isn't just for the boys, but lets say I love it!! highly recomended.

  Unit Series 2 - Great
Review created: 09/08/08
by:

Second series of this American Military Series based on a Special Forces Unit - Very much more of the same, and the characters are developed further.
Good action sequences, but politics rears its ugly head, and the series ends on the cliff-hanger of all cliff-hangers - plenty of scope for at least 1 more series.
If you are into military action series - I heartily recommend this.
Some of the plot lines are very obvious, but then at times that's true to life.

Summary - enjoyable, worth viewing.

  Love the Army
Review created: 02/08/08

I loved the first season of The Unit, and I couldn't wait to watch the first full season on DVD (season 1 was a mid-season series). There are 23 episodes on 6 discs, plus interesting bonus material:

Disc 1 (2:58:01)
Change of Station (44:00)
Extreme Rendition (44:59)
The Kill Zone (45:01)
Manhunt (44:01)

Disc 2 (2:55:10)
Force Majeure (44:30)
Old Home Week (44:00)
Off the Meter (41:41)
Natural Selection (44:59)

Disc 3 (2:59:07)
Report By Exception (44:58)
Bait (44:59)
Silver Star (44:22)
The Broom Cupboard (44:48)

Disc 4 (2:59:47)
Sub-Conscious (44:48)
Johnny B. Good (44:58)
The Water Is Wide (45:01)
Games of Chance (45:00)

Disc 5 (2:58:05)
Dark of the Moon (43:49)
Two Coins (44:19)
Outsiders (44:59)
In Loco Parentis (44:58)

Disc 6 (2:13:48)
Bedfellows (44:39)
Freefall (44:10)
Paradise Lost (44:59)

Video: The Unit, like most Fox releases of new shows, looks great on DVD. The series is shown on CBS in HD, and we get a nice Anamorphic Widescreen (1.78:1) transfer for these DVDs. There's a bit of noise in some scenes, but this seems to be done by the production staff to give the show a certain style. I noticed some odd interlacing issues in episodes 2, 3, 4 and 5, usually occurring part-way through there episode. There's a chapter placed after the opening of the episodes and there's a "play all" option on each disc.

Audio: You'll only find one track on this release, but it's a good one; English Dolby Digital 5.1. I've found action and sci-fi shows make best use of 5.1 tracks, and The Unit does a good job of taking advantage of the format. There are some nice directional effects, and the rear speakers are used for some subtle sound effects and music. The bass sounds good as well; it helps put a bit of punch into explosions. There are subtitles in English, Spanish and French, and the episodes are closed captioned.

Extras:Commentary Tracks
Extreme Rendition - Shawn Ryan, Nicolas Bradley and Regina Taylor
The Kill Zone - Demore Barnes, Dennis Haysbert, Lynn Mamet and Robert Patrick
Force Majeure - Scott Foley, Michael Irby, Mac Martini and Daniel Voll
Natural Selection Audrey Marie Anderson, Scott Foley, Eric Haney and Sharon Lee Watson
Silver Star - Bill L. Norton, Dennis Haysbert and Max Martini
Sub-Conscious - Audrey Marie Anderson, Abby Brammell and Daniel Voll
Johnny B. Good - Todd Ellis Kessler, Max Martini, Vahan Moosekian
Dark of the Moon - Eric Haney Dennis Haysbert, Shawn Ryan and Michael Zinberg
Freefall - Abby Brammell, Dennis Haysbert and Daniel Voll
Paradise Lost - Abby Brammell, Dennis Haysbert, Lynn Mamet and Vahan Moosekian

Paradise Lost: The Making of the Season 2 Finale (32:46)
I think this is a first for a featurette - they interview accountants! This featurette examines the making of the final episode, and includes interviews with nearly everyone connected to the episode, from the accountant, to the writers, producers, editors, make-up artists, hair stylists....I think they have everyone covered!

Mission: The Making of Sub-Conscious (11:44)
Shooting an episode in a submarine poses some problems for the production crew. See what the had to contend with, and how they solved it, in this featurette.

Dark of the Moon: Working with Weapons (20:08)
Want to know a bit about the weapons in The Unit? Check out this featurette.

Summary: This is a good DVD set, and one worth adding to a collection.

  The Unit series 2
Review created: 10/03/08

Follow the unit members and their missions. See the dedication and loyalty displayed by these elite soldiers. Has something for for all, ACTION for the guys, a great storyline for the girls, and ofcourse some very agreeable mancandy!! It is aportrait of what life is like for women whose loved ones may not come home at the end of their working day and the bravery they have deep in their soul sending them off to fight!

A great second series which takes you deeper into the secret workings behind world politics and the men who risk it all for the american way! In God we Trust! imprinted in every cell of their being.
