Album Notes Full title: T. Rex Unchained: The Unreleased Recordings Vol. 4: 1973 Pt. 2.Includes liner notes by Mark Paytress. This is part of the T. Rex Unchained series.T. Rex fanatics and those interested in sifting through the scraps of Marc Bolan's short but memorable career will enjoy this release, and the rest in this series. This grab-bag of songs, song fragments, sketches, and one-offs is interesting because it comes from one of rock's true originals. The fourth volume of the UNCHAINED series of unreleased T. Rex material begins with several polished versions of songs that appeared on the previous UNCHAINED release, also from 1973. The opener, the rough-and-ready "All of My Love," features an extended, ecstatic fadeout of the quintessential Bolan declaration, "My baby is a scooter/and I love her." "Metropolis Incarnate" would sound quite at home on a Mott the Hoople record. Throughout, Bolan sings and plays with passion, showing off his impish pipes and prodigious guitar chops. Mixed in with full-on rockers are moments of poignancy, such as "High Wire" and "Yesterday (Everyday)," which demonstrate both Bolan's melodic gift and his expressive vocal style. Basic chunky rock songs like "Jet Tambourine" transport listeners to a sofa in Bolan's hotel room, circa. 1973. | |||||||||||||
