Very definitely up there with the best films ever made and you will see why when you watch it. The title name may not fill you with great expectations but it is a movie which has enormous appeal for both the guys and the ladies.

Christian Slater and Patricia Arquette play the lead roles as a romantic pair who get together on his birthday due to a bit of a prank played on him by his boss.

She turns out to be a first-time call girl and her pimp is truly insane - enter one Gary Oldman in an unforgettable role in dreadlocks and an accent to go with them but still the lily-white pigmentation of his previous roles. The fun begins when Slater asks Arquette the now immortal "who or what is a Drexle?" and then there's the small matter of a suitcase full of dope.

With flawless acting throughout this gem of a movie, written by Quentin Tarrantino, will leave you wanting more and the only way you will get more of this quality in a movie is to watch it again, which I can guarantee you will.

Dennis Hopper plays a memorable part as Slater's estranged father and Christopher Walken effortlessly carries off, with typical Walken humour, quite the most coolly menacing mobster you're ever likely to see.

Buy it, Watch it, Cherish it because it is quite brilliant!

A Heady Mix of Violence and Romance

What superb acting in this movie. Patricia Arquette is simply stunning in her portrayal of a kindhearted, naiive 4-day old call girl. She is the ultimate vacant blonde and is ultra believable. Christian Slater's comic geekiness and almost innocence matches and there is real chemistry on screen.

With cameos by Samuel L Jackson, Val Kilmer and Brad Pitt as a hilarious pot head, the story takes lots of personalities from movie producers to cops and offers twists and turns throughout.

The scene with Dennis Hopper and Christopher Walken in Dennis' mobile home is classic. You won't take a breath for five minutes! What a hero Gary Oldman is - such a diverse actor. He clearly researches his roles to every minute detail. Sheer brilliance.

Here is a movie that a guy can watch with his girlfriend as, throughout the regular violence, there is a genuine story of love!

  A big bad hamburger of a film....Ace!

In a charming opening sequence, Clarence (Christian Slater), a Rockabilly Elvis fan, finds true love with a gorgeous blond in a leopard skin coat called Alabama Whirly (Patricia Arquette) who deliberately showers him with popcorn as he sits alone watching Kung Foo movies in a half empty cinema.Their instant love affair leads to instant marriage and continues throughout the remainder of the film. So rest assured this is a very delightful romantic love story. All Clarence and Alabama want out of life is to settle down and have a nice family.
The dead Elvis, convinces Clarence to take revenge on Drexel, an ugly one eyed, 14ct gold slimeball drug dealer, for being real nasty to his wife before they met.
With one million dollars worth of 'cola', courtesy of the wasted Drexel, and with a little help from thier actor friend and his sleazy contacts in the film business, they set out to achieve thier goal of living happily ever after, but not without encountering some serious difficulties on the way.
With an excellent script by Tarantino, a well integrated musical score, some seamless editing, and the lovely Rubanesque body line of the heroine, with facial features and skin tones to match, who gives an appealing performance as a streetwise angel, handy with a pump action shotgun as she is with a tub of popcorn, all makes for pure entertainment.
Throw in some fine cameo performances, by Christopher Walkin the 'Anti Christ' Sicilian drug baron,Don Vincenzo, and Dennis Hopper who dared to call him an eggplant (you have to watch the film to find out why), hippy coke head and couch potato Brad Pit, who is into cleaning fluid in a big way, and you have a genuinely fine Teen gangster film......that is, until it all falls apart in the final scene, when 'True Romance' turns from an exciting drama about two young lovers, into a nonsensical white-feathered farce.

True Romance is hands-down my favourite movie of all time. The ensemble cast is second to none,(Slater, Patricia Arquette, Oldman, Walken, Hopper, Pitt, Rappaport, pre-Sopranos Gandolfini, Chris Penn, Sizemore, Pinchot, and Val Kilmer as Elvis). I dare anyone to come up with an equal to this kind of acting firepower. Add this to Quentin Tarantino's powerful script and Tony Scott's slick, stylish directing, and you've got a movie you need to watch numerous times to fully appreciate. As a cool sidenote, my one and only foray into body art was professionally done by the tattoo artist who decorated Clarence and Alabama in the movie. He was discovered while he was working in Venice Beach, California, and has since been working in Kelowna, British Columbia. Canada. The scene with Walken and Hopper is my favourie scene in any movie! The title may mislead people into thinking that it is a chick flick, but it is a true Tarantino movie. If you like his other work, and edgy movies like Killing Zoe, Kalifornia, Fight Club, and Taxi Driver, you will love this movie. I give it 3 thumbs up and 6 out of 5 stars! Enjoy!
