True Grit (DVD 2002)

Big John Wayne won a Best Actor Oscar for his performance as the drunken, one-eyed U.S. Marshall Rooster Cogburn. As was the case with North to Alaska, True Grit gave Wayne a rare opportunity to add some comedy spice to his acting. This is the story of a headstrong tomboy who hires Rooster to track down her father's killer - and insists on joining him on the dangerous journey. Kim Darby is perfectly cast as the girl and the supporting cast includes the vinegary Western regular Strother Martin.
