If you’re an action fan this is a very enjoyable film, it’s very fast paced with some great effects.

Excellent use of the ‘implanted memories device’ drives the plot, twisting different realities, making it compulsive viewing. (Leave your brain in neutral and enjoy the ride)

Second & third viewings are a must as it’s such a fast paced film.

Plot summary:

Douglas Quaid (Arnold Schwarzenegger) a construction worker has vivid dreams about Mars.

Because of the dreams, he decides to have a virtual holiday on Mars, by going to holiday memory transplant company "Rekall INC"

During the procedure he becomes paranoid and believes that he is an agent who is under threat of being killed.

Which memories are real?

So begins a fast action packed SF thriller

  A Classic

Total Recall marks one of the best films in Arnies career. The whole film is a fast paced action brilliance. The effects are amazing and the acting is brilliant. This film has many great plot holes to keep you guessing and leaves you wondering if the film was based on a dream or reality. Excellent si-fi. Best of the 90s!

Plot:

The year is 2084. Douglas Quaid is a construction worker, every night Doug has been having horrible nightmares about the planet Mars and it has become very obsessive for Doug. Doug goes to "Rekall INC" a company that sales false memories of ideal holidays. When Doug has a false memory of a holiday on Mars implanted, it all goes terribly wrong. Doug has lost his memory and he is being chased by a group of assassins and his beautiful wife Lori is a agent who claims his whole life is a fake and he isn't who he is. After discovering he is Hauser, a former Mars Intelligence agent, Quaid goes to the colony on Mars, in hoping of finding answers. Where he meets a woman named Melina who is working for rebels and the assassins are working for Vilos Cohaggen, the colony's corrupt administrator. As Doug sets out to discover who he is and why Cohaagen is after him, Doug not only is finding answers, he also begins to question reality. Is the events of Rekall INC, being chased by assassins and going to Mars really happening? Or Is it all a dream?

Total Recall - an futuristic action film classic

Where do I start?
This is an excellent film starring Arnold Schwarzenegger. The film was released in the early 90's and I was really chuffed to find this in DVD format as I'm trying to replace all my VHS videos with DVDs.
Upon inserting the DVD was greeted with a nice menu system that looks and feels like the film's credit sequence.
Once I started playing the film, I was more than happy with the reproduction quality, which brought back many memories of watching this film all those years ago.
Being a fan of Arnold Schwarzenegger's films, I knew exactly what I was buying when I picked this DVD and was not disappointed.

A must for any fan of the genre.

Total Recall what a cult classic.
Review created: 11/07/09

Its truly a cult classic a must see for the sci fi fan but also for those who enjoy mindless violence and bizarre story twist. this movie will leave you invigorated after the adrenalin begins to pump its fast paced not slow to start the plot is pretty straight forward if you decide to watch it and ignore the plot over tones. It can leave you confused if you think about it to much it will leave you thinking was he dreaming or did it all happen, you just cant tell my advice is to sit back enjoy the action enjoy the comical oneliners arnie is so renowned for and enjoy the carnage of our vision of a future where people just dont get in trouble for killing mindlessly. If you havnt seen it try it what is there to lose apart from hours of precious time we could spend educating our selves LOL recommend you dont let your Kids watch this.

Used to be one of my favourite films but now looking slightly dated. Still a good story with plenty of Arnie cliches and gun fights. A good story but still can't work out if its real or not.

Total violence, total tosh - but oddly compulsive
Review created: 09/08/07

I'm not a great Arnie fan but this is eminently watchable for reasons other than his performance which is as wooden as ever - just as well his script is mainly one-liners (including nods to Jurassic Park and Terminator 1). One reason is the theme of mind-altering (not just brainwashing)that is essential to the 'plot' (in quotes because although there is one it's sketchy to say the best for it). The idea of implanting memories and wiping real memories seems like SF now, but I bet that if the human race survives its tendency to wage war in the name of assorted religions, this sort of thing will become a reality. The violence is constant and ranges from standard shoot-out with Arnie invulnerable and effortlessly hitting anything he pointsa gun at, to some gruesome one on one action. Sharon Stone is possibly the best thing in the film in her portrayal of vindictiveness and treachery.

  Totally brilliant
Review created: 09/07/07

Back in 1990 (was it really over 10 years ago!), Paul Verhoeven directed a film with two of Hollywood’s biggest stars at that time in it. Arnold Schwazenneger and Sharon Stone starred in the futuristic Action-Packed fictional adventure, set in the year 2084, Total Recall. Arnie played Quaid, who after getting memory implants from a holiday firm, because he couldn’t afford to go for real, starts being tormented by visions of a place he thought he’d been, Mars. They try and explain to him that they are just glitches in the implants, but he believes that he is actually a spy that has been to mars and there is some unsolved crime that he has to investigate. Is it a dream, or is it the implants, or is it real’ Watch it and decide for yourself.

  Total Recall:Arnie at his best!!!
Review created: 03/07/06

If you like science fiction, buy total recall.....if you like action, but total recall.....if you like Arnie, buy total recall!
Total recall gives an interesting look into the future without filling your mind with techno-babble or focusing on aliens which look like humans with different ears or noses. Its straight to point and very fast paced (like most Arnie films). The story is strong (but im sure you can read about that in previews and blurbs...instead of a review) and surprisingly well acted by the diverse cast...including the johnny cabs!!!
It may be worth a warning that there is gore a some points in the film (several lady friends of mine had to look away), but generally its actually 'funny' gore....check out the scene when their eyes swell up.
Total recall deserves 5/5 because of the simple science-fiction concepts it slips into a film that can be accepted by the mainstream and the way that the action never ceases for a moment, like the hardcore brother of the film 'Bladerunner'. All in all this is a film any film fan would want to be aprt of their collection.
