  Featured Packed HDDVD Player

I decided to purchase this player to go with my new LCD television not only for its hi-def capabilities but for its upscaling of standard def DVDs as well.

Following Toshiba's recent annoucement that they are to stop development of the HD-DVD format the price of these players has fallen dramatically. This means that with a little patience you can come across a real bargain, as I did.

Dont let the fact that HD-DVD is no longer to be supported put you off, this player has many other features which still make it a worthwhile purchase. The main one being it is also an upscaling DVD player and the quality is second to none. Now you can enjoy your current DVD collection in near HD quality on a suitable TV.

All in all this is a very good player for both hi and standard def content. The falling prices mean that you can come across a real bargain and, dont forget, that HDDVDs are readily available on Ebay as well giving you access to some real movie gems in HD at less than normal DVD prices.

  toshiba ep30 hd-dvd player

Having such a large collection of hd-dvd and blu-ray movies i decided to get the lower end model of the toshiba due to needing a back up just in case my ep30 let me down and all i can say is if anyone gets the chance to but one then do so.
Just because the format is dead it does not matter as there are so many movies available for the hd players and it also upscales so it is a must for the price trust me.
i am currently using my ep35 on a panasonic projector and it runs a stunning picture at 110 inches were as i am using the ep30 in the bedroom also on a panasonic projector but it is only 88 inches but i have no complaints what so ever.
IN SIMPLE TERMS BUY ONE YOU WILL NOT BE UPSET

  HD DVD Player

Bought this item from the description and the Seller had 100% feedback. Can see why. The HD DVD Player is awesome. The quality of a film is unbelievable really looks 3D. Such a shame that no new Titles will be made as Blu Ray won the war but there are a lot of titles to be bought on HD DVD in certain shops and they are now so cheap. So would recommend one of these along with a Blu Ray Player and get the best of both. suedale-2008

I purchased this dvd player as an additional hd dvd player. It is a great player and like any HD the picture quality is second to none. It also improves the picture quality really well on normal DVDs. A good dvd player to have.

Make the most of your HD TV

This is an awesome unit, and for the under £100 price... well what else can you say.

It is going to be a while before you can buy a Blu-Ray with 1080P upscaling for anywhere near this price. So to make the most of my new Samsung 1080P tv I thought I would take a chance.

The HD DVD's that come with the unit are a strange choice as they do not show the true quality of 1080P, but they do show the power of the extras and the internet connection.

When I put some of my favorite DVD's in I was blown away by the quality improvement. I can tell we are going to be watching a lot of our old DVD's again.

Play did a great job with fast delivery, and the firmware updates from Toshiba have helped with a freezing problem and are easy to apply.

  Toshiba HD-EP30 HD-DVD player

Toshiba brought this product out after the HD-EP10 which was a huge success anyway but probably to compete with blu-ray. Still a tricky solution but Toshiba are certainly raisning the bar. The new HD-DVD is cheap compared to the blu-ray players and will play High definition sound unlike the EP10. I work at hughes electrical and this product is certainly more popular than any other HD DVD player or Blu-ray player.

  HD-DVD Player TOSHIBA
Review created: 09/12/08

I reviewed this player for weeks before bidding, although the format is now defunct, the interest and support for the HD-DVD system seems to be gaining , maybe through A/V enthusiasts, check out THE A/V FORUM on the tinterweb..loads of info and assistance.
The playback on a 40" LCD is terrific, the 5.1 sound is also very good, I am about to purchase a A/V Receiver and speakers to enhance my system.
I have been looking for HD-DVD film sources, and there seem to be quite a lot around, don't just look in UK , there are sellers in rest of Europe, and some in USA, but make sure the films are Region 2.
The upscaling properties of the player are also excellent, played copies of "THE WIRE" thru the player, very good, sound was better on the Toshiba , all in all a good buy.

  Toshiba HD-EP30 Player HD-DVD Player - A must!
Review created: 06/05/08

I am writing this review after the dust has settled on the HD DVD vs Blu-Ray battle. As we all know, Blu-Ray won.

If you are like me and want a bargain, I don't feel that you can much wrong with an HD DVD player in the current climate. I bought mine for £71, and I have not looked back since. Plus all the HD DVDs are incredible picture and sound quality, and the whole on-screen experience is very impressive.

I bought the Toshiba HD-EP30 Player HD-DVD Player and it is both a beautiful looking piece of machinery, and it plays wonderfully too. There is a slight draw-back of loading times and the basic looking remote, but this is really only looking for faults.

One the plus side, the HD DVDs look and sound fantastic. I have never seen such a sharp image before and the sound really makes you take note of everything a film has to offer. There is also the feature of up-scaling DVDs to near 1080p quality. I was very impressed.

One of the main reasons I chose the Toshiba HD-EP30 was for it's Optical Output capabilities. The use of Optical Cables for the sounds really does make a huge difference when compared to Aux/Phono cables. Which coupled with an HDMI cable, makes everything so realistic.

So if you want to experience a film how it should be viewed, I would strongly recommend an HD DVD player. Again there is the obvious draw-back of the future backing of HD DVD, but this is quickly forgotten about with the range of HD DVDs available; Shaun of the Dead, Harry Potter, Planet Earth etc.

For the amazingly cheap price tag on HD DVD players and discs, I would not look any further. If you have a lot of spare cash then a Blu-Ray player might be for you, but for an amazing looking and sounding film experience with an extensive back-catalog them HD DVD is for you.

My Life With A Toshiba HD-EP30 Player
Review created: 27/02/08
1 of 2 people found this review helpful.

having brought this player i was happy to not had to pay a higher premium to to get it. It great little unit that has good quality movies. The one thing that let it do it that i find i have turn my Lcd Tv Volume up to hear it if not using my surround sound. Another thing that I'm great full for is that since Toshiba pull the plug on hd dvd i happy to not have paid the price as most people did as i would not have been so happy. Least i have a PS3 to play blue-ray so not lost out at all. It Would have been nice to be able to stream items for home pc via the lan port in the back but hope someone get a firmware hack to do this in future.

My 1st revive hope it was ok.

This is a brilliant HD DVD player. With the fact that many HD DVD's can be purchased extremely cheaply (recently purchased two from Gamestation for 49p each)
It also has a 1080p output meaning all of your normal DVD's are near high definition

  HD DVD still worth it
Review created: 08/06/09

Fantastic picture. HD DVDS can get picked up for a bargain at the moment, though not the greatest range.

Even just as an upscaling DVD player this is superior to my Sony 350 blu ray.

  First taste of HD films
Review created: 07/06/09

Ok so I why did I buy a out of date HD DVD player when I own a Sony PS3 with Bluray player built in ??.

PROS
1 Cheap films £1-£4
2 Cracking films some of witch are not on bluray
3 100% completed format unlike blu-ray
4 Films are now becoming collectable
5 1080p @ 24hz
6 Upscales dvds to 1080p

CONS
1 Cant walk in to asda and pick a film up
2 Cant play Divx / Xvid
3 Load times are a bit slow but no slower then bluray

I would say thats about it for me with cons I happy with my player and think you would be to.

This superb quality Toshiba HD DVD player will play both HD DVDs and standard DVDs to an extremely high standard.

This particular device offers superb value for money and would be an excellent addition to the set up of anyone who enjoys experiencing films and documentaries in their highest quality possible.

So what is HD??
High Definition TV is the biggest advancement in home media viewing since flat screen panels were introduced. Now, in the same way, HD TV is set to revolutionise the way we watch television. The beauty of HD is that it allows the user to experience films or documentarys in superb quality with a level of picture resolution far higher than with standard quality, this means sharper, clearer and crisper pictures. It does this by producing a higher resolution picture than your standard DVD. HDTV has more lines across the screen than a conventional TV set. The pixels are smaller and closer together, meaning there can be double the number of lines, thus creating a far better picture than a normal DVD player.

  Toshiba HD-EP30 Player HD-DVD Player
Review created: 01/03/09

This is the 2nd such player I have bought on eBay. The quality is outstandingly good in both looks and playback quality especially on my new Panasonic 50" 1080p TV. Like all other reviews it takes a long time to get started but no problem after that. I bought it because the deal had 52 HD DVDs of which 40 I hadn't got. This therefore represented very good value. One day I will invest in Blu-Ray but not yet. Whilst HD DVDs are still available at low prices it makes sense to own such a machine. The picture quality is better than through an XBOX 360. The sound quality is sperb through my Bose 5.1 system.

  Used Toshiba HD-EP30 Player
Review created: 12/01/09

Having a new shiny Panasonic 42" plasa delivered I wanted to see what 1080p 24 frame looked like. Deciding not to buy blueray player as price too high at moment I saw this player on eBay with 16 HD discs. It is regarded as being excellent at upscaling the old dvd's as well.
When delivered and plugged in first HD DVD (Planet Earth- highly recommended) the quality was stunning. Having now played about 10 HD dvd's and around 6 old SD dvd's my opinion has not changed.
This is an excellent HD player and value for money at the price they are now selling for and is really excellent at upscaling your old collection bringing new life and picture quality.
What I like most - pure quality of picture
What I dislike- nothing really except maybe the longer delay in start up but this is small price to pay to the quality when running.

HD DVD is great - don't let them scrap it!
Review created: 05/07/08
by:

Finally my steam driven Bush DVD player gave up after many years service - it started to behave as if the cat was sitting on the remote - even with the batteries out! My brother just bought the Toshiba HD-EP30 and recommended it as it was on offer at Amazon - I missed the offer but found one here on eBay. Installation was easy - HD playback sensational - even improves ordinary non-HD DVD's. Came with HD lead so no need to buy one - improves viewing on 42" HD plasma incredibly. On the downside - 1) very slow loading - TV reported "no signal" before finally it fired up 2) power cable and HD lead output on back were at opposite ends of this quite wide player - made positioning on TV stand a bit fiddly. If you can get one for a good price go for it - superb piece of equipment - but remember that it looks like Blue Ray will replace HD DVD.
