Top Gear doesn't do things by halves, which is completely apparent in Top Gear: The Challenges. Not only do they attempt to drive on water, send a car into space and race a bunch of jumping French men...only to lose, they also manage to embroil several celebrities. Top Gear: The Challenges features the most ludicrous stunts ever undertaken in a TV show.

In an effort to do things a bit differently, Jeremy, Richard and James are asked to go out and buy their own everyday cars, before converting them into stretch limos. Jeremy opts for a tiny Fiat Panda, Richard decides to use an MGF roadster and James, meanwhile, goes for an Alfa Romeo 164 and a Saab 9000, with the intention of making a sort of Alfa Romeaab. After a series of challenges our presenters are sent to collect some high-profile celebs that need a lift to the Brit Awards. Richard collects R&B star Jamelia, who is visibly alarmed by the low quality and open-air nature of her evening's ride. James takes best male nominee Lemar for a tour of every one-way system in West London, whilst Radio 1 DJ Chris Moyles is happy just to survive the journey as Jeremy's giant Panda falls in half.

Who says cars can't go into space? Well quite frankly everyone, but that doesn't deter the Top Gear team. Using the scientific principle that "it's a bit pointy at the front", a Reliant Robin is selected as the shuttle. The British Amateur Rocket Society is recruited to assist the team as they attempt to launch the largest non-commercial rocket in European history. Everything seems to be working perfectly, but at the last moment the Robin spirals out of control, and crashes into a hillside, becoming Top Gear's biggest ever explosion.

The team also attempts to turn a boring multiple person transporter into a fashionable "drop top", by putting a working convertible roof on an ageing Renault Espace. You can do it, but you probably shouldn't.

Love Top Gear and this dvd

Love Top Gear, always good for a laugh. Not into the super cars but it's nice to see them. Couldn't tell one from another personally.
Love the antics the "boys" get up to and their humour and ability to laugh at themselves. This is a really good laugh and informative too. A very good dvd to watch. Brilliant!

The barmy boys at there best, all the challenges were good but for me the best ones were the robin reliant/space shuttle and the amphibious cars. This is a dvd for any Top Gear fan or anybody that likes to have a laugh ( most at the cost of Captain Slow).
The dvd is suitable for all ages as quoted by Hamster for the robin challenge ( if you have kids aged 8 and over, they will love this one, boy he was not wrong iv two daughters one aged 1 and half and the other is three and they both sat there and really enjoyed it.

A must have for any Top Gear fan

My husband and I thought we would introduce my parents into the Top Gear World. We started by introducing them with the Challenges Volume 1 DVD as the rocket launch is not far away from where they live. We all sat down after our christmas lunch and turned it on. I expected my stepdad to fall asleep in front of the TV, but we were all hooked, and ended up in stitches. Well worth a watch even if your not into Top Gear, I'm sure if your not you soon will be. We've now had to buy the next challenges for New Year to keep them entertained. Pity its a long waiting list for tickets to the show.

This Top Gear DVD is just perfection. It takes some of the best challanges that they have ever done and put them on one disk. These challanges include the relient robben space shuttle, the limo challange and many more. This is Top Gear at it's best. I would recomend this to anyone.

Top Gear - The Challenges Vol.1
Review created: 26/05/08

It is worth paying for this DVD. This DVD is typical Clarkson, Hammond and May in their element. The lads present what is some of the most innovative and entertaining television seen in recent years, in what should only be a run of the mill car magazine program. I cannot believe they made this on a BBC budget, and they probably didn't! If you want to see real classic cars out on the road and why you might think twice before buying a ten grand super car, or see some special "hand made" cars mixed with pure autopornography from Bugatti, watch this and it will make you feel younger. This DVD will float your boat, or car and launch it somewhere.
The only sad thing, is the way the DVD jumps between challenges. Personally I think all the challenges were interesting and fun to watch end to end. I felt like I had been educated watching this disc, its like "Tomorrows World" but with cars and I admit that I don't quite know what I have learned. Perhaps it's "the car lives". I still can't figure out why they used a Reliant Robin for conversion into the british space shuttle when they could have used a Bond Bug. Perhaps it is a payload thing. Still you have to congratulate May and Hammond with their techie team for their amazing technical achievement. They managed to get further with their orbiter than NASA did with one of their very tragic failures. So enjoy your truffles and champagne and prepare to blast off, or splash down in a vintage something or other. It is worth watching even though the lads solutions are not exactly perfect or ready for mass production!

Top Gear - The Challenges Vol 1 (DVD)
Review created: 10/05/08

This is a brilliant collection of some of the challenges from the show that have been done over the last 4 years, and include the race from Italy to London with the Bugatti Veyron and a Cessner plane, 70's Supercars (for under £10,000), The Stretch Limousines and the Amphibious Cars, among others.

Some of the challenges are hilarious, and will have you laughing out loud, no matter how many times you watch them. It is a very entertaining DVD which you will want to watch again and again, and it's well worth the money if you are an avid fan of the show.

I originally bought it as a present for my husband, but my daughter and I have watched it many more times than him, as it is just such a laugh. A well recommended item.

Another cracking compilation of challenges performed by the top gear trio. Not much here if you are an avid car fan, but, if like me you are a mechanical leper and just want a good laugh then I would highly recommend this.

Top Gear - The Challenges (DVD)
Review created: 25/01/08

Very funny stunts from the Top Gear guys - I particularly enjoyed the Robin Reliant space shuttle, the people carrier convertible and the 'lets all make an amphibious car' challenges. On the down side, I found the editing to be rather severe - a lot of the original material from the T.V. show had been knocked out and I was driven to distraction by the format - instead of showing each challenge in it's entirety, the disc has Challenge one, part one - followed by - Challenge two, part one - followed by - Challenge three, part one - followed by - challenge one, part two - followed by challenge four part one ........... if you think it's annoying reading this format, you can imagine how annoying the actual disc is
