Top of the range Sat - Nav, reads text messages aloud !

This top of the range unit is much the same as the 710, with the addition of maps of almost everywhere in the world you are likely to drive a car (UK,Europe,USA and Canada) and the ability to play music on an in built 20GB MP3 player, control your ipod and store pictures, also it has a hard drive instead of an SD memory card.
The 4" widescreen means you can navigate with the touch of a finger and you can store frequently visited places so you don't have to type in a location every time. Watch the screen or listen to the spoken instructions on where to go, couldn't be easier ! You can even select different voices, but I guarantee you'll go back to Jane in the end.
For me a huge bonus is the hands-free mobile phone calling via bluetooth, the tomtom comes with a built in microphone but is best if you use the extension mic (also included). The hands free quality really is very good, most people wont be able to tell you're not holding the phone. The unit even takes a copy of all your mobile numbers out of your phone automatically so you can dial people directly from your tomtom without picking up your phone! It can even read your text messages aloud ! A remote control comes with the unit (But not with 510 or 710)
Another bonus is that it if you connect to your PC you can download all the UK speed camera locations, which could save you the price of the tomtom in speeding fines. Similarly railway stations, shopping centres etc, also you can load in grouped items like Tesco stores, congestion charge zones or BP petrol stations plus hundreds of others if you connect it to your PC every now and again. (Many free web-sites)
On the down side these are top of burglar Bill's Christmas list so never leave it in the car if you can help it, they might even see the window bracket or the mark it leaves on the window and break-in just to check the car for you. (Been there, done that!)
A sound investment if you do a lot of driving or can't find your way out of a paper bag, plus this unit saves you the price of a hands-free car kit for your phone. I could never go back to using maps again now, Get one you won't regret it !

Price at Comet (On-line) 18-01-2007, Tom Tom 910 - £349.92

  Tomtom 910 Review
Review created: 29/12/06

PROS
The TomTom GO 910 comes preloaded with maps of North America and Europe, and it features integrated Bluetooth, text-to-speech functionality, and a 4-inch color screen. Plus, it has a built-in MP3 player, can display photos, and offers iPod compatibility.

CONS:
The TomTom GO 910's POI database is outdated, and it comes with a flimsy windshield mount. It's also a bit pricey, and the screen is hard to read in sunlight.

The bottom line: For early adopters, the TomTom GO 910 is the GPS gadget du jour, offering the latest and greatest in portable navigation systems. That said, we wish it had a better mounting system and a more up-to-date POI database.

  Tom Tom GPS Navigation System
Review created: 31/01/08

I run a small Courier Company and have been using Satalite Navigation since its origin as an in-car tool. I had been using the Becker high speed, but this is fitted to each vehicle and not portable. About a year ago I had to hire a vehicle and a friend lent me his TomTom 910.I was amazed how much faster the TomTom calculated routes at least 100 times faster than the Becker.I now use TomTom in all the Vehicles and beieve it to be the Best satalite Navigation product available and an invaluable tool in the Courier Business. Ihave used it extensively in Europe and found it just as good over there. My wife recently went to USA and Canada to visit relatives and again found it perfect. I would not hesitate to recommend it as a first class navigation system.

I bought the Tom Tom GO 910 because I was going to be touring in a camper van in Eire and had never been there before. I found it a tremendous help. It was extremely accurate and guided us successfully to everywhere we wanted to go. I haven't yet used the MP3 facility or the hands off mobile phone link but 'm looking forward to doing so.

Very simple & easy to use with just the right amount of information shown on the screen I find this an ideal companion. I bought the 910 because I already have a TomTom Go 510 and decided to upgrade to a later version with European maps included. the 910 with it's built in hardrive is far more user freindly than having to programme plug in cards all the time. They also improved the link between the GPS and the PC. One thing I don't like is not being able to plug the in house charger into the TomTom without going via the USB Port connector, for example when you are on holiday and you want to charge the device so you can input routes. Overall though I don't think there is a better device for my purposes. The Bluetooth hands free phone connection is a real bonus and is extremely worth having.

You should be a computer literate to have a TomTom 910
Review created: 08/08/07
by:
3 of 4 people found this review helpful.

As others have already been stated using TomTom Home and downloading the latest release of the SW is a very bad move. You need to backup all the content of the TomTom, format it and reload the backup. This is a portion
from Tomtom helpline;

************
After the backup copy is finished, FORMAT your TomTom's memory card :

1. Enter the "My Computer" window on your computer and locate the icon for your TomTom.

2. Right click the TomTom's icon and then click "Format"

3. When the format wizard window appears click "Start" inside of the format wizard window.

4. A warning message will appear; Click "OK" to begin formatting (it is safe to format as long as the complete backup has been created first).

After the TomTom is formatted, open the TomTom HOME program on your computer to install the update :

If you do not have TomTom HOME on your PC please go to the following webaddress to download the latest version (free)

Maps are mainly out of date, even the bypasses older than one year are not in the map.

Good piece of hardware, but software is apperently not.

  Tomtom Go go
Review created: 07/03/07
3 of 8 people found this review helpful.

Introduction.
I'm a keen fan & collector of Banksy works. I've been collecting for about 4 years now & over those years I seen the interest in his work increase at a rapid rate of knots. With this so have secondary market prices for his prints and originals. Sadly I have also seen the number of attempts to pass off sub standard or questionable items increase.

I thought I'd have a go at writing one of these guides as a way of sharing my knowledge & experience with others.

Key things to Look for when buying.
Prints
Most Banksy prints will be stamped with the POW (Pictures on Walls) blind stamp. There are a few very early prints produced without this stamp.
All prints are nearly always numbered, if a print is offered without a number it is very probably an unofficial release therefore should cost considerably less than a numbered version.
Its good to have a reciept but not always possible - Amongst others The following shops have sold his work

Pictures on Walls (official printers)
Lazinc (originals & earlier examples)
Artrepublic
Electric Sheep
The Tate (a few years ago)
TomTom London (they do NOT have authority to authenticate prints)

Original Works
Lazinc is Banksys agent & Representative, most original work is sold through him and will come with a letter of provenance.

Things to be Wary of
Vague descriptions
Unclear Pictures of stamps & numbers
Un-numbered prints, if a print is offered without a number it is very probably an unofficial release therefore should cost considerably less than a numbered version
Prints where the signature is not clearly part of the print shown, ie super-imposed over the picture
The same item for sale by more than one seller, check all current & completed listings
The same photos used by two different sellers
Stock photos. If a stock photo is used then ask the seller to send you a picture of the actual item
Stories about how 'Banksy signed my bus ticket'

Safer Buying
If no-ones bidding ask yourself why ? There's hundreds of fans using eBay !!
Don't jump in and buy something without reading the description in full
Don't assume anything always ask before bidding
Check the sellers feedback and recent sales history
Pay with a credit card through Paypal
Always ask for postal insurance, special delivery is the best option for the UK
If its too good to be true it probably is !

If I've made a mistake with any of this information please let me know, if you would like me to add something also let me know.

There is a dedicated forum on ebay for Banksy fans, it has over 500 members sharing a wealth of knowledge, follow the link below to register and become part of the ebay Banksy community.

And finally, If you feel this guide has been helpful could you please click the voting button below, if you would like me to add anything please send me a message.

Thank you to those people who have provided feedback so far.

  TomTom 910 - windscreen mounts
Review created: 21/08/08
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

If the mount is not secure, you havent locked it tight enough, moisten and thn apply, twist tight and then twist another 1/4 turn, it the last stiff turn that makes it stay in place and locks the gooseneck.

Bad points - It does crash from time to time and needs reset with a paperclip.

I bought this item after reading many adverts and reports about several similar items and came to the conclusion that this one gave me many different uses, ie,continental and usa maps places I am lucky enough to visit regulary. This particular one I bought was a tomtom refurbished unit and it came to me in brand new condition and with a guarantee as well. I have used it many times now and have found it to be a very good purchase and I am very pleased with my buy.

  WOW, what a machine....
Review created: 08/07/08
by:
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

Before purchasing this product, I read a lot of reviews on the prowess of the Tomtom GO 910 and I was suitably impressed. In fact, it even crossed my mind that it was too good to be true that one GPS system could do everything that was stated. But I was wrong. This is not just a GPS System; it is your hands free kit, your i-pod (or any other generic Mp3 player), your phone book, your picture frame, your speakers and last (but by no means least) it is your way home......
All of these extras are hidden behind a very good quality 4" screen too. After the GPS programme is installed, you are left with 12GB of free space in this beauty. So you can get all of your favourite driving songs, link it up to your car stereo and cruise the days away, safe in the knowledge that you will always be able to find your way home. You cannot go wrong.

I have been extremely impressed with the Tomtom GO 910 and it's functionality and I truly believe that there are no better GPS systems on the market.

What I would say though is that if you are looking for JUST a GPS system and you are not interested in all of the extras that come with it, this is not the one for you. Although it is a very good one, you can find equally good GPS systems for a lot cheaper (for example the Tomtom one). This machine has been built with Gadget freaks in mind. So if you are one, like myself, then this is the new toy for you.

I decided to buy this sat nav because it appeared to be very good according to reviews and my brother in law has found that his device works well in most circumstances and over a considerable time. The product takes a little getting used to because of the many detailed but very clear instructions. I am well pleased with the performance but have not explored all of its potential yet. Considering that I had determined the maximum I wasprepared to pay I got a bargain.

The Tomtom that I purchased from e-bay was exactly as described. It arrived very quickly and I was very pleased indeed with the condition of my purchase and would use the same supplier again. Why I purchased the Tomtom was to help me get from A to B without using a map and it has become very useful.

I have to say that the TOMTOM 910 is well worth having. For the money, it gives you everything you want. Perfect for a traveler to Europe and America, as it has all the updated streets and features. Also a big help is the destinations, knows as Point Of Interest. Including if you rent a car like we did in Florida, it gives you directions to all major parks and attractions. PERFECT ALL ROUND.

I like the simplicity of the device. You plug it in , enter the details and off you go. Features such as: speed cameras, on-road facilities, road recalculation, mobile connection via bluetooth, built-in hard drive, are very useful. I especially like the amount of countries that tomtom 910 covers. The docking station is a bit wobbly, but if you sit it on a surface and attach it to the windscreen , there are no problems. I can live with that. In general my opinion about the device is positive.

Very good price for this great sat nav. Delivery was swift and product was well packaged. I am having great fun with this product as it takes me along routes I would not normally use and ends up saving me lots of time. The selection of voices available is great and the option to download celebrity ones is a plus. The bluetooth facility is fantastic and with the built in memory capacity you can have all the music and pictures that you could ever need.

  Can't get GPS signal
Review created: 28/08/07
by:
2 of 3 people found this review helpful.

Apart from the badly designed mounting, that is not strong enough to hold the unit in place,I had to prop the thing up with a tampax box last time out as that was all I had to hand! I have just discovered that although it works well in my classic VW. It has a hell of a job picking up a valid GPS signal in my modern citroen C5.

I questioned this at the shop where I bought it, and they said modern cars with heated front windscreens interfere with the signal, and the only way around it is to fit an external aerial! wish they had warned me about it, as I would have bought one at the time of purchase, now it seems they are deemed out of date, and I can't get one anywhere!

So if anyone has one, or you know where I can get one, I would be greatfull if you could contact me on KAMPAMAN@NTLWORLD.COM and I will purchase it off you.

I bought the Tom Tom GPS Receiver because it is a versatile, effective time saving piece of kit. Versatile because it not only plans your route but, provides a variety of extremely important and useful information. Effective because applying a very simple process, can provide a detailed route to any destination of your choice. Time saving because within seconds of typing in a simple post code you are on your way to your destination with pin point accuracy.
I bought it for all the reasons above plus it can be used by any of my staff, any time, in any vehicle. A must for the woman driver!!!!

  Tomtom GO 910 GPS Receiver

2 of 5 people found this review helpful.

This item is probably hyped up more than what it should be in my honest opinion. I have had this item for a couple of days now, and during that time i have had to reset the unit about 8 times. It took me about 5 minutes to find the reset button!
After first connecting it up to my computer, it told me that updates were available, and so i downloaded them. Before installing them however, i backed up my tomtom...which was a wise move. After installing the updates, the item would freeze on the splash screen (the screen that loads up before the street map). I had to restore the back up i made for it to work again!
Also, it appears to run slower than my other tomtom system. I have the tomtom one V2 UK, and that loaded up in half the time as this did (about 30 seconds).
However, it's not all doom and gloom!
This unit has fantastic capabilities. The flimsy mount has been sorted out (to some extent from the original) and you can store your music and movies on it. The telephone diary and call making fascilities are excellent.
Also, as all the maps are there in one place, you can just unplug it at the airport in the uk...hop accross the atlantic, plug it in, and within 2 minutes, you're good to go. You don't have to mess around with changing SD cards, and buying seperate maps...it's all on one unit. You pay upfront, and that's it. Seperate USA and Canada maps are going on ebay for about £70!
All in a all a good unit.

  TomTom Go 910 GPS Reciever
Review created: 10/05/07
by:
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

The tomtom go 910 is one of the best products i have bought in recent years.
Fairly compact and pleasing to the eye and when you get bored with the std silver front you can change it for another colour, it just clips off.
There is a comprehensive how to on TomTom home to get this use the the CD which comes with the tomtom.
The 910 is simple to use with its touch screen and simple to navigate pages full 7 digit postcode makes it a delight to program and it gets the route in double quick time.
Instructions are clear although the volume could do with being a little bit louder the 910 is capable of reading road names during the journey and is extra reassurance that the correct route is being followed ie being told to " turn right in 100 meters on to back street" is good when there are a couple of turnings in quick sucsession.
My one down point is taht it can lock up or turn itself off no problem its just a reset button but its a pain half way through your journey but the tom tom is quick to recalculate you journey all in all 9/10 a great and worth while purchase
