Tomtom GO 510 GPS Receiver

I've had three other sat navs and I can say that this is the best yet. I drive around 30-40K miles a year so I need to know where I'm going and this unit rarely lets me down. The widescreen means you can navigate with the touch of a finger and you can store frequently visited places so you don't have to type in a location every time. Watch the screen or listen to the spoken instructions on where to go, couldn't be easier ! You can even select different voices, but I guarantee you'll go back to Jane in the end.
For me a huge bonus is the hands-free mobile phone calling via bluetooth. The unit even takes a copy of all your mobile numbers out of your phone automatically so you can dial people directly from your tomtom without picking up your phone! A remote control is sold separately also.
Another bonus is that it comes with all the speed camera locations loaded onto it, which could save you the price of the tomtom in speeding fines. Similarly railway stations, shopping centres etc, also you can load in grouped items like Tesco sites, congestion charge zones or BP petrol stations plus hundreds of others if you connect it to your PC every now and again. (Many free web-sites)
On the down side these are top of burglar Bill's Christmas list so never leave it in the car if you can help it, they might even see the window bracket or the mark it leaves on the window and break-in just to check the car for you. (Been there, done that!)
A sound investment if you do a lot of driving or can't find your way out of a paper bag, plus this unit saves you the price of a hands-free car kit for your phone. I could never go back to using maps again now, Get one you won't regret it !

Tom Tom, Sat - Nav, Widescreen Models 510, 710 and 910

Bought a Go510 on November 14 as a Christmas present for the wife. It comes with only 90 days of warranty. Today is April 6 and the thing is broken. For a few days it had trouble finding the satellites, then just went dead. It was never abused, never left the car. Just out of warranty and $600 wasted. It is junk! Stay away from it!

After reading many reviews on "Sat Navs" and trying out 2,(Tomtom and Navman),I decided for the Tomtom 510. Much as I liked the other models in the range , 710, 910. the only difference I could find on the 510 vs 710 was the range of maps. The 710 had Europe as well but the cost of the 510 on ebay and the price of the map update,(£20)was value for money. Yes the 910 has mp3 but I wanted a navigation device not a music machine.
The "Fors" Quite easy to set up. clear voice, quick to give position if you make a mistake on turning.Much better when finding someones house rather than creeping in a car along the road looking for the right number.
The "Againsts" All satnavs can take you up the wrong roads but much of this is due to road planners not informing O/s that the road is one way or nolonger in use etc. All satnave can take you on a longer journey because it is "Quicker". But often they are not.

I think that tomtom is the best sat nav on the market.
I already owned a 510 and bought this one for my father. Save money one the new 520, buy a 510 and update the maps through tomtom home.

Highly recommended, saves getting embarassed when lost!!!

Great Unit , best I have owned so far , Connects to Satellites within seconds.
Bluetooth is very handy and connects no problem to my phone.
Very clear directions / map, I had a Road Angel Navigator for a while and was forver getting lost ! , GF used to dread my using the road angel.

My husband was over the moon when he received this for Christmas,and two months on still singing its praise,s (bored now).So judgeing by his reaction to the Tomtom Go 510 its a great hit,no complaints as yet fingers X

Being female and not at all into technology, i thought that i would find a Sat Nav hard to use. But i was surprised at how easy it was to use and understand, and would recommend this one to other people i know

Great Navigator, but disapointed with text size on screen, its a bit small,
also this version is quite a clumbsy size, and not as neat as the 910. So I realise I have been spoilt. Also found that removing the tom tom from its windscreen mounting is not easy as the release is not flexible,(yes and I have been removing it correctly as per the manual) and can be quite stubburn making me feel that sooner or later this mount will damage the seating on the tomtom itself.

purchased this for my brother, I have the 910 and now I wish I had paid the extra and got him the same, I now know that there are many faulty ones of these, and its seems to be all down to the mounting with the charger point.

great value for money, although a little hesitant at purchasing a refurbished unit. First unit did not work but was exchanged within 3 days, second refurbished unit worked apart from the pc docking station so decided to contact tomtom direct, they are sending replacement docking station direct. Tom Tom GO510 is great, very easy to use, and can even answer my mobile via the bluetooth and receive text messages (i think).

Excellent bit of kit, had a couple of other makes of satnav but this is easily the best,great bluetooth connection and so easy to set up for journeys etc.

i bought it because i like it and this product is very cheap and a very good condition.With ebay is easy to find what you want.

Ive decided to buy tomtom go 510 because of very good mapping, bigger screen(muh better view), bluetooth(you dont have to use your hands while driving) than you get with ordinary sat nav. Ive had before another brand and I wasnt very satisfied but GO 510 is everything I need for sat nav. Id like to recomend it its best value for money

Large screen, touch-sensitive controls, very fast satellite lock... a great little package.

Slight downsides are that to drag the map around, you need to use your finger nail rather than just the finger. Also, I could not use the bluetooth handset function, but that is likely to be a fault with the iPhone's limited Bluetooth support rather than TomTom.

Overall, I highly recommend this package.

I only had it for a week before it packed in. Prior to this however it tried to direct me the wrong way up one way streets, down foot paths and rarely took me the best route to where I wanted to go. You could definetley not rely on this if travelling to an unknown address.
