Tomtom 920

Just replaced my simply excellent tomtom 910 with a 920. My son reminded me of the lack of a birthday present, so, very reluctantly, I sent the 910 to Germany. I have used it extensively in Great Britain and most western european countries, particularly Spain. Apart from needing it's reset fingy clicked 3 times (due to being on in roasting hot, parked cars,) it's been boringly reliable and a major asset. My shiny 'new' ('refurbed' by tom tom?! but looks NEW to me!) is slimmer, and has various features, fixings, and other minor differences from the 910. Seems like a smaller choice of voices, although you can download more, but the one I preferred wasn't present, initially, on the 920. However, you now can easily find a 920 on Ebay for around £150 -or even less, and, as you have USA and Europe maps built-in, that's close to a free gift. The very latest 930 has yet more fancy features including lane guidance and even better graphics. Tomtoms can not only answer your phone, hands free, with bluetooth, but can read your incoming texts aloud, and hold hundreds of tunes and picture slideshow. TomTom is a serious boon for the traveller, and whilst I have no experience of the numerous alternative satnavs flooding the market, I doubt I could be bothered to even try a different make. So I can strongly recommend the real bargain 920, and if my kid scrounges my 920 next year, I hope the 930 price will have come down by then! To set up a tomtom is utterly simple, and you'll be fully conversant with the essentials in next to no time. Obviously, one can still navigate using maps, and there's merit in having one aboard, but tomtom eliminates the need to stop and check. Should you make an error on a roundabout, for example, tomo will immediately recalculate and advise how to rejoin your chosen route. Sometimes, if you're really wrong, you'll be advised to turn around when possible. 'Road Closed' is no problem, route recalc'd in seconds. Once you've had one, I doubt you'll ever want to be without. I'm well able to nav, having both a (lapsed) PPL and a yachtmaster ticket, but for stress-free motoring, particularly over longer distances, I'll use the Tomo thanks. Hope this helps your decision.
