TomTom GO 510 Car GPS Receiver

I've had three other sat navs and I can say that this one is the best yet. I drive around 30-40000 miles a year so I need to know where I'm going and this unit rarely lets me down. The widescreen means you can navigate with the touch of a finger and you can store frequently visited places so you don't have to type in a location every time. Watch the screen or listen to the spoken instructions on where to go, couldn't be easier ! You can even select different voices, but I guarantee you'll go back to Jane in the end.
For me a huge bonus is the hands-free mobile phone calling via bluetooth. The unit even takes a copy of all your mobile numbers out of your phone automatically so you can dial people directly from your tomtom without picking up your phone! A remote control is sold separately also.
Another bonus is that it comes with all the speed camera locations loaded onto it, which could save you the price of the tomtom in speeding fines. Similarly railway stations, shopping centres etc, also you can load in grouped items like Tesco sites, congestion charge zones or BP petrol stations plus hundreds of others if you connect it to your PC every now and again. (Many free web-sites)
On the down side these are top of burglar Bill's Christmas list so never leave it in the car if you can help it, they might even see the window bracket or the mark it leaves on the window and break-in just to check the car for you. (Been there, done that!)
A sound investment if you do a lot of driving or can't find your way out of a paper bag, plus this unit saves you the price of a hands-free car kit for your phone. I could never go back to using maps again now, Get one you won't regret it !

Tom Tom, Sat - Nav, Widescreen Models 510, 710 and 910

bought the 510 as an upgrade to my Tomtom One which I have passed on to my wife now confident with it's operation. The main benefits to me are that it is Bluetooth compliant and acts as my hands free, another is that I can now get traffic reports with the accessory I purchased elsewhere on E-Bay, and the screen is a little larger. The downside is it's shape, not as uniform as the "One" and therefore not easily slipped into the pocket or indeed used hand held whilst walking around city streets. I have replaced the memory card with a larger capacity card in order to include the seven digit post codes and safety camera database, since that time I have had unreliable performance, popular opinion is that the memory card should be of a certain grade with a very fast read/write capability, an example of which I have yet to acquire. My daughter has a Navman iCN 510 and both my Tomtoms are much better to work with. Once I have solved the card speed issue I sure we will get along just fine.

Bought it for call outs across the country and it gets me there every time. Could not be happier. I have since downloaded add ons and also i use it as a hands free kit, which is really handy as i don't like points on my license.

Bought Tom Tom sat nav at greatly reduced price and have been delighted with it, except for one or two small shortcomings. Main advantage is that my wife no longer needs to navigate, which she loathes and which can lead to rows.
The postcode input is brilliant, just type in a postcode and within moments you are offered a route, told how far it is and given an estimate of how long it will take to get there. If you want to visit another place en route, you can do that too. If you miss a turning or decide not to take Tom Tom's advice it will immediately calculate the next best route.
One of the shortcopmings is that you have to pay extra for traffic information, so Tom Tom will take you through even those areas which are well-known bottle-necks - like the centre of Bath (which happened to me recently).
Another shortcoming is that the maps are quite out of date in some areas - particularly for mini-roundabouts, but you can usually work out the route quite easily without guidance.
All in all though, great value for money.

i think this product is brill. the information and ease of use is fantastic. I have always wanted a tom tom but never been able to afford one as they were so expensive. the one i bought of ebay was very reasonable indeed.

The added feature of static speed camera warnings make this a must buy! The buddies feature is a great idea too. I just love it.
I do a lot of motorway driving and to my horror I was unable to connect onto the M3 via the M27 due to an accident....I then remembered the avoid part of route feature on my Tom Tom so I tapped in to avoid the M3 and BINGO!!! this little gem still got me safely to where i needed to go. I'd never have got to my destination without it! Would have got lost and ended up turning back. Buy one...you won't regret it. I'm so impressed I've just bought one for my daughter who has just passed her driving test.

This is my first sat nav. Item was brand new as far as I could see. Took out into a very rural area excellent results. I deliberately ignored the some of the directions in a area that I new , Tom Tom very quickly recalculated the next possible route and continued guiding me to my intended destination . Top marks to product and seller.

I bought the TOMTOM GPS to get some fun back in driving and I am pleased with the purchase.
The only problem was that I bought it on the spur of the moment before researching the model offered a GO 510, I think that it has been superceded and later models are available, therefor the maps are somewhat out of date and its going to cost me another £30-00 to get updates

Fantastic piece of kit....used a garmin for a while but that seems like a toy compared to this, the handsfree is a nice add on to the system - although the mic and all the cables are a pain to place and keep out of the way....but hey ho...i can find my destination!

this sat nav is ideal for my work being a long distance delivery driver. it takes away all the worry of traffic jams and the dreaded worry of phone calls as it as blue tooth for my mobile. very pleased

This was good as my wife used it at the first time. Said everything, and the wife said that the Tomtom man speaks very nice in the car. The Tomtom done all it should (Unfortunate) My wife came back in the car !!!!!

great tomtom in great condition well pleased ,has made life traveling comfortable, i do not know what i did with out my naw tomtom, this item have made life so easy , i cant put it in to words,i will never go back to maps.

i have recieved the gps tomtom but it didnt work properly tryed to send an e-mail what to do and they replyed that a have to reset the gps a already knew that when a have tryed to call them no answer at all!!!NEVER AGAIN!!!!!!!!

I purchased my Tom Tom 510 from another ebayer, it was advertised with having a slight fault .... it did not always switch off, strange I thought. I can now confrim this to be true and there seems to be no logical reason why. I emailed Tom Tom, my reply was less than satifactory ... they just stated the obvious, was I switching it off properly.

I dont mind the unit powering down to zero, as it gets recharged every time I plug it in to the car. One problem I can see with car charger is the tiny jack plug that goes in to the windscreen unit, it falls out very easily, or to be more precise it's pulled out. The weight and coil of the cable puts a strain in this crucial connection, why this connection it is not more substantial is a mystery, unless of course Tom Tom want to sell new charger cables through wear & tear of this weakness. To eliminate this as much as possible I wrap the cable around the unit then plug it in.

I use the unit once a week, going to towns up and down the country, I have to say I am very pleased witht the clear directions and features such as hands free and the speed camara information.

I never leave home with it, as with my job I can get a call to go to a place I have never been before, and as we all know, its the last mile when you get lost.

We thought we may of bought the wrong item, but turned out to be more than expected and great value for money, we spoke to the seller on the phone and he was more than happy for us to return if not happy and allow us to exchange for another product, but the TomTom we purchased was fabulous and well worth the money especially with the extras and the aftersales.

this sat nav is easy to use and is as good as the go 700,i think as long as it gets you where you want to go , why spend a lot of money on expensive models.

It is a great help when you want to travel to a destination where you haven't been before. Especially when you have to arrive in time (e.g. your flight's departure). Useful gadget!
