Tom Tom Club - Tom Tom Club (CD 2007)

Great upbeat fun recording. This is the heart of Talking Heads, whilst Byrne could be accurately regarded as the Head.

The tracks all bounce along with an infectious beat and would be welcome at any party. The playing is first rate and is well produced, everyone getting a bit of space to bounce around in.

I bought it as a fan of Talking Heads and Adrian Belew and am not dissappointed. Belew makes his mark with some of his trademark guitar noises fairly well into the album, so don't be expecting any wild fret melting solos from the outset.

As a child of the 60's my hey day was the late 70's early 80's when I was young and beautiful and oh so trendy. Talking Heads somehow made it to the golden archives leaving sister band Tom Tom club behind. In my opinion this album is as good if not better than anything that came out of the Talking Heads. I love the girly, slightly worldly, sexy but somehow innocent lyrics and musical execution and I could listen to this every day (joining in with the rapping of wordy rapping hood and reciting word for word genius of love) At the fear of sounding like my parents, they just do not make them like this anymore!! The fact that it is available on CD now fills my heart with joy and my six year old (music addict) has grown to love this album even more than me.

This is the sound of white boys and girls tired of sounding so damn serious with their main band and finally having some fun. Wordy Rappinghood and Genius of Love are so much fun to listen to, it's impossible not to move when they're on the stereo. The rest of the album is also pretty good, with echoes of early Bananarama (don't let it put you off - they were ace!) but also sunk in the mix a post-punk sensibility.
I am not sure if this is the track listing of the original LP, but I think it has as extra tracks a couple of later singles (Lorelei and Under the Boardwalk) which makes it a Greatest Hits of sorts.
I was lucky to pay very little for my copy, but I am sure there is plenty on ebay for less than a fiver (including p&p) - really, do not miss it.
