Thunder's secdond album is bigger in every way to their debut. The difference in how the album is packaged shows exactly how this band were upping their game.

The sleeve to the first one was appalling. A pun on the title shot in a back alley, it was dingey, unglamourous and only mildly amusing. This album took a rock legend (Storm Thorgerson of Pink Floyd, Hipgnosis fame) out of retirement. It's professional, ambitious, striking and feels like a classic from another era.

Laughing On Judgement Day is cinemascope where Backstreet Symphony was home video. The track listing alone id huge. The titles are no loger fixated on holidays, lovin' and girls. This time satellites, empty cities and the end of the world jostle their way into the rockers repetoir.

The real stand out tracks however are the one that deal with the time honoured subject of the unattainable woman. Everybody Wants Her, Does It Feel Like Love, Flawed To Perfection, Like A Satellite were all big tunes live and for Thunder proved career highs on record. Complimented by the huge acoustic hit A Better Man and lead single Low Life In High Places this album deserves it's brilliant sleeve. It deserves a higher profile in UK rock history and I'd go so far as to say it deserves to be in any rock affectionado's music collections.

Never thought it would ever be on ebay.

Ebay, the place to find almost anything!
I have been looking for this album for months, being a rock singer myself i have always admired good rock bands and singers, Thunder are one of those bands, and after looking for some time now, I finally decided to give Ebay a go, what a great choice that was.

It is fair to say that when buying music, I have got some albums on tape from years ago, well of course now, tapes are virtually none existent in cars so I have had to go for a long time without hearing some of my best albums, I have now found them all on Ebay and have great joy in singing along when I am in the car for long periods of time.

Music is one of those things that can create a mood in you, and personally, I find that rock music take me up in mood, so If i am having a bad day, on it goes, and loud too; Laughing on Judgement Day by Thunder is a mixture of classic head shaking rock, and slow melodic tunes that have a rock undertone about them, if you get a chance to listen to it, I suggest you do.

  The voice of the 80's/90's
Review created: 05/12/06
by:

Danny "The Don" Bowes beats Pete Cox of Go West into second place as the voice of the 80's & 90's. His voice is soulful with that rough edge, it is what Michael Bolton dreamed he could sound like but sadly (for him and us) never acheived. Pete Cox allegedly wept when he first heard Thunder but whilst he attempts to "comeback" you can enjoy this slice of rock which doesn't take itself too seriously. It's not as good an album as the classic Backstreet Symphony but there are still some stand out tracks. Cheesy but good.
