  Thomson DHD4000 Freeview Recorder

This is arguably one of the best available recorders of it's type. I love it.
Simple to use with good quality picture and sound and a 14 day EPG.
Limited to 20 hours of recordings on it's small 40gb hard drive is it's only major drawback, but the hard drive can easily be upgraded to 120gb which increases the recording ability to around 60 hours. Instructions on how to do the upgrade can be found on the internet.
Newer recorders now include a series link, freeview+ and 160gb or greater hard drives, all of which should make them better than the DHD4000, but most seem to have problems with menu navigation and locking up from time to time. In my opinion no-one seems to have got it right since the DHD4000.

  Thomson DHD 4000 Freeview Recorder
Review created: 26/06/08

Now that everyone is jumping aboard the High Definition bandwagon, it's good to see some of the trusty Thomson DHD4000s becoming available, consumers moving onto the next great thing.

I have used and owned a DHD4000 since they were released onto an unsuspecting public in the UK over 3 years ago. This model was superceded by a TopUpTV replacement that never exhibited the stability and relaibility of the DHD4000.

If you want a twin tuner Freeview recorder, then in my opinion this is the one to go for, despite its basic user interface and epg.

  Digital TV Receiver/recorder
Review created: 03/03/08

The Thomson DHD4000 40 gb PVR digibox/recorder must be the easiest recorder to use. It has been argued that the capicity of 40gb (about 20 hours of TV) is not big enough but for most of us just recording programmes that we dont want to miss it does seem plenty. If you need to keep something longer then you can archive onto DVD or VHS if you still have one. The beauty of this digibox is that it is a compact recorder with Freeview built in and as we are all aware, every TV in the house will have to be digital or have a digi box and this unit is not much bigger than a digibox measuring 360w x 230d x 50h....I have now sold almost all of my digiboxes in favour of the Thomsom where we dont have a digi TV....a very underrated piece of kit that you'll be pleased you bought
