There's Something About Mary (DVD 1999)

If you liked the Farrelly Brothers' "Dumb and Dumber," you are going to love "There's Something About Mary." The humor is again on a boys' locker room level, but the acting and script are both superior to "Dumb."
Cameron Diaz is Mary, a drop-dead gorgeous girl with a heart of gold. The story opens in high school as dorky Ted (Ben Stiller) prepares for a prom date with the wonderful Mary. They never get to the prom, however, and years later, he is still dreaming about what might have been.

At his buddy (played by the hilarious, scene-stealing Chris Elliot)'s urging, Ted hires a private detective to find her. The detective (Matt Dillon) finds her and falls for Mary himself. There is also a crippled man who lusts after Mary. Through all this, the story is "narrated" by two unnamed musicians who pop up now and then and sing about the action.

There are so many hilarious scenes; the zipper, the dog, the hair gel, the hitchhiker; you've heard about all of them. This is one time when the movie lives up to the buzz.

Cameron Diaz is so beautiful and funny that you cannot take your eyes off of her. Matt Dillon is billed over the hero, Ben Affleck. Dillion plays an over-the-top sleeze bag and is perfect in the part. Stiller doesn't have hero-good-looks, but he is a likeable everyman and has a great deadpan expression. This isn't the kind of movie one admits to liking, but it is a very funny comedy!

Not being a great film-goer, I wasn't exactly aware of what I was about tos ee when I entered the cinema to see There's Something About Mary (and I had no idea who anyone was on the screen). However within 10 minutes of the start I was in stitches, and continued to be right until the end. Indeed, no matter how many times I watch this film I still find it impossible not to laugh at the scene with the overdosed dog (STAY AWAY FROM THE LIGHT!).

It does contain many sexual references and is liberally sprinkled with expletives, but I don't feel it is offensive in any way - I would describe it as more titillation.

A laugh every time.

Loving this film. Great cast and story, really original in a lot of ways. I've only given it 4 out of 5 because of the lack of special features on the disc, all it has is a commentary by the Farrelly Brothers, and one weak featurette about zips. Shame. Otherwise, loads of fun to watch, no matter what mood I'm in. Timeless modern classic!

the film is about her being traced by a private dective for an old boyfriend and lee evans is brilliant as the old boyfriend. good funny film.

the dvd was a good price and good quality prompt dilivery.It came in plenty of time 2days later I think and we all enjoyed it, now Ican watch it again and again.Also I am glad that I bought it.

One of the funniest shows of all time, especially when he fights the dog, the 'hair gel' scene is also very funny plus Cameron Diaz is a sex bomb, yes, that is the real reason i bought it!!!

This is a classic film. I remember watchin this with my sister and always loved it. What can I say brings back memories. I decied to buy this film because as I said both off us love the film.. And im sure my sister will be borrowing it!

I LOVE THIS DVD AS IT'S VERY FUNNY. I HAD ONLY RECENTLY SEEN IT ON T.V. I DECIDED THAT THIS IS AMONG A SMALL NUMBER OF DVDS I WANTED TO OWN. I TRIED EBAY AND TO MY SURPRISE THERE IS WAS SO I BOUGHT IT, AND IN A MATTER OF DAYS I WAS DELIGHTED TO ADD THIS TO MY COLLECTION. I HADN'T HEARD MUCH ABOUT THIS DVD AND TO BE HONEST I HAD NO GREAT DESIRE TO SEE IT AS THE "TITLE" DOESN'T SOUND THAT GREAT. I AM NOW GOING TO BE LOOKING OUT FOR THE FOLLOW UP DVD AND IF IT'S HALF AS FUNNY, I SHALL BE DELIGHTED. THE QUALITY OF THIS DVD IS EXCELLENT AND IT'S LIKE NEW. SO WAIT AND WATCH THIS SPACE.
