Album Notes Personnel includes: Sting (vocals, guitar, bass); Cheb Mami (vocals); Andy Summers (guitar); Branford Marsalis (saxophone); Kenny Kirkland, David Sancious (keyboards); Darryl Jones (bass); Stewart Copeland, Vinnie Colaiuta, Omar Hakim (drums); Mino Cinelu (percussion).Producers include: The Police, Nigel Gray, Hugh Padgham, Sting, Kipper.During two decades in the music business, Sting has always been about genre-busting. The Police imbued their reggae-influenced brand of rock music with a truly literary lyrical sensibility, distancing themselves from the Tolkien-tinged meandering which tended to pass for "thoughtful lyrics" in the seventies. The ill-advised sci-fi garb of SYNCHRONICITY notwithstanding, they brought vibrancy, imagination, and intelligence into the dumbed-down world of arena rock. THE VERY BEST OF STING & THE POLICE represents their work with unquestionably classic cuts such as "Message In A Bottle," "Can't Stand Losing You," and "Every Breath You Take."On his own, Sting moved into the even headier realms, assembling a supergroup of young jazzers and further indulging the bookworm within. "If I Ever Lose My Faith In You" and "Englishman In New York" display the mellower, calmer Sting. You want erudite? The album's only co-writing credit is "Russians," based on a little something by Prokofiev. Closing with the hugely successful Puff Daddy remix version of "Roxanne," THE VERY BEST OF STING & THE POLICE provides an overview of his progression from schoolmaster to rock icon and back again. Reviews it's nice Cd and good singer, i like his way But not the best and it's soo boring to fill this form, they should make it more simple than this Review ID: 10000000006699521 Was this review helpful? Report this review Review created: 26/02/08 by: Superb album, one of the best I have bought for quite some time. It is rare to find an album these days even when it is listed as the "Best Of" or when it is entitled "Greatest Hits" that you recognise or instantly like all the tracks. Not so in the case of this album. Not being a fan as such of Sting or the Police in the past, I didn't realise just how many hits they had produced. Review ID: 10000000005809380 Was this review helpful? Report this review This CD contains all the major hits of both Sting as a solo artist and also when vocalist with The Police. An absolute "must" compilation Review ID: 10000000004336606 Was this review helpful? Report this review Review created: 01/04/07 by: Sting, The Police - The Very Best Of Sting And The Police (CD 2002) sting HAS SO MANY FACETS to his music, just recently he has gone into the realms of classical and really the talent of this musician goes on, this collection of music is AWESOME, and really there is nothing more to say except for his music and lyrics which are immense. BUY THIS ALBUM YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT, his voice is not one of the best, but the overall music is beyond what he was trying to do in the band the police, the music lives on, and so it should. "fields of gold..........." a monumental line and lyrics just listen and buy it. 5/5 sheer class! Review ID: 10000000003258657 Was this review helpful?
