Usual Suspects, Kevin Spacey at his best !

Kevin spacey is awesome in this. He seriously was at a different level. Its one of the best acting performances of all time.

This is an ususual and a very different film. This will keep you thinking for hours after the film.

One of the best I have ever seen !

Plot -
After a waterfront explosion, Verbal, an eye-witness and participant tells the story of events leading up to the conflagration. The story begins when five men are rounded up for a line-up, and grilled about a truck hijacking (the usual suspects). Least pleased is Keaton a crooked cop - exposed, indicted, but now desperately trying to go straight. The cops won't leave him alone, however, and as they wait for their lawyers to post bail, he is talked into doing one more job with the other four. All goes tolerably well until the influence of the legendary, seemingly omnipotent "Keyser Soze" is felt. Although set in the modern day, it has much of the texture of the forties, plus suspense, intrigue (a fairly high body count), and lots of twists in the plot.

Every now and again a film comes along that is described as a gem. This is because the film just like a gem is a surprising pleasure to find esecially amongst the mass expanse and typical rubble of moviedom.

The Usual Suspects...
is just such a gem!

The film is described as a classic by all who have seen it even though it was released as recently as 1995. The title of the film itself is said to be borrowed from the much earlier classic, Casablanca.

When the film was released, it contained a host of 'unknowns'. However, do not associate the word 'unknowns' with 'untalented'; as is proved by the star of the film, Kevin Spacey, who picked up an Oscar for his mesmerising performance as Verbal Kint.

I confess that I will not try and give you a detailed synopsis of the film as I do not want to spoil your viewing (or perhaps more appropriately I would not know where to start my synopsis!)

Quick Synopsis:
Five Criminals Are Brought Together In A Police Line-Up...

If you are going to see the film for the first time, you will notice that when you ask for the film at your local video store, a smile will mould itself onto the owner's face. Why?
Because he knows just as everyone else who has seen the film that you are letting yourself in for something special.

And, I guarantee you that the next time you go into your local video store and catch a glimpse of the now 'oh-so-famous' cover of the film out of the corner of your eye you will notice that whereas before the film camouflaged itself against all the other films, it now seems to shine just like a self-assured individual stands out from a crowd.

If you are going to see the film for the second/third/whatever time. I hope you enjoy the film again and have fun trying to answer the immortal question:
WHO IS KEYSER SOZE?

First off this is not a bad film per se. But it's not good. The actors all put in respectable performances and the premise of the plot is acceptable; essentially a which bad guy is the really bad guy puzzler. But I didnt enjoy it. I have now watched it twice, after dismissing it on the first viewing and being told I was mistaken. So I watched it again to see if I could see the films hidden depths the second time around. I must of missed them again. Essentially to me it's a no brainer. Without giving away any spoilers, I thought the answer to the whole central question was pretty obvious from the start and, being so predictable, the so called big twist at the end was therefore all played out and somewhat dissapointing.

Taking that into account though, Suspects is still a film worthy of watching. The characters and the dialogue is pretty good, and Benfico del Toro is very very cool, although his character is underused, but in my opinion this is certainly no classic and nowhere near being the awesome film that others claim it is. A pretty average whodunnit.

Great story with a superb twist
Review created: 12/08/08

Its not very often a movie comes along where the cast are superbly chosen. The a list stars only add to the brilliant storyline, which on its own keeps u guessing right until the end. For those who havent seen this film, the twist is unexpected and makes u watch the film over and over again for the hidden twists.
