Kevin spacey is awesome in this. He seriously was at a different level. Its one of the best acting performances of all time.
This is an ususual and a very different film. This will keep you thinking for hours after the film.
One of the best I have ever seen !
Plot - After a waterfront explosion, Verbal, an eye-witness and participant tells the story of events leading up to the conflagration. The story begins when five men are rounded up for a line-up, and grilled about a truck hijacking (the usual suspects). Least pleased is Keaton a crooked cop - exposed, indicted, but now desperately trying to go straight. The cops won't leave him alone, however, and as they wait for their lawyers to post bail, he is talked into doing one more job with the other four. All goes tolerably well until the influence of the legendary, seemingly omnipotent "Keyser Soze" is felt. Although set in the modern day, it has much of the texture of the forties, plus suspense, intrigue (a fairly high body count), and lots of twists in the plot.
Every now and again a film comes along that is described as a gem. This is because the film just like a gem is a surprising pleasure to find esecially amongst the mass expanse and typical rubble of moviedom.
The Usual Suspects... is just such a gem!
The film is described as a classic by all who have seen it even though it was released as recently as 1995. The title of the film itself is said to be borrowed from the much earlier classic, Casablanca.
When the film was released, it contained a host of 'unknowns'. However, do not associate the word 'unknowns' with 'untalented'; as is proved by the star of the film, Kevin Spacey, who picked up an Oscar for his mesmerising performance as Verbal Kint.
I confess that I will not try and give you a detailed synopsis of the film as I do not want to spoil your viewing (or perhaps more appropriately I would not know where to start my synopsis!)
Quick Synopsis: Five Criminals Are Brought Together In A Police Line-Up...
If you are going to see the film for the first time, you will notice that when you ask for the film at your local video store, a smile will mould itself onto the owner's face. Why? Because he knows just as everyone else who has seen the film that you are letting yourself in for something special.
And, I guarantee you that the next time you go into your local video store and catch a glimpse of the now 'oh-so-famous' cover of the film out of the corner of your eye you will notice that whereas before the film camouflaged itself against all the other films, it now seems to shine just like a self-assured individual stands out from a crowd.
If you are going to see the film for the second/third/whatever time. I hope you enjoy the film again and have fun trying to answer the immortal question: WHO IS KEYSER SOZE?
brilliant film, wanted the 2 disc copy, luckily found a great seller the dvd. the film is amazing no matter how many times you watch you still see something new, we all know the twist but you are still thinking if he made all that up or did it happen. just brilliant
Its not very often a movie comes along where the cast are superbly chosen. The a list stars only add to the brilliant storyline, which on its own keeps u guessing right until the end. For those who havent seen this film, the twist is unexpected and makes u watch the film over and over again for the hidden twists.
I haven't got the time to write a long review on all the subjects touched upon in this film, the plot, direction, etc
But all i have to say is BUY THIS FILM, you will not be disappointed, it is a very clever film with a brilliant cast ........ this is also the film that put Kevin Spacey on the map, he is breathtaking in this film.
Also, the CLIMAX is without doubt one of the best endings I have ever seen !!!
10/10 for this film ......... please buy it, you will not regret it I assure you
The Usual Suspects (DVD 2002)this film is superb, a real class act with a final twist at the end that will send you into a frenzied spin! 10 out of 10.
The film it's self is a masterpiece that should be watched by anyone who loves film. Although the special features could have been better they were still interesting to watch and am very glad i bought this film.
While you are watching The Usual Suspects you'll understand in your bones why this film is already heralded as a classic in the crime drama genre. A wily cop-turned-criminal (Gabriel Byrne) meets four other men in a line-up and then reluctantly joins them in several dangerous but profitable robberies. His partners include violent Stephen Baldwin, wise-cracking Kevin Pollack, Latino druggie Benicio Del Toro, and crippled Kevin Spacey.
The brilliantly inventive and consistently suspenseful screenplay by Christopher McQuarrie is filled with both gritty details of the world of crime and references to the idea of evil forces. At one point, the Kevin Spacey character notes, "The greatest trick of the Devil was to convince the world that he didn't exist." Right. This film directed by Bryan Singer is clever, cunning, and absolutely riveting from start to finish.
This film gives nothing away at the beginning and was nothing like I thought it would be. You have to watch it carefully and follow all the details but this is easy to do as it makes compelling viewing. There is swearing and some violence and is not the type of film I usually watch however, I thought it was excellent. Sure there a few holes in the story but all in all an excellent film with excellent actors who were well cast. Story has an unexpected anding but I would watch it again and still enjoy it.
I brought the usual suspects as a christmas present for my husband he adores the film. he raves on about the main character and how he pretends to be one person, but actually he is the suspect, I have been looking for a long time for special addition and was glad to find it on ebay .
Fantastic film, Kevin Spacey is fantastic, it'll keep you guessing all the way. Who is Kaiser Soze? Find out for yourself. Saw the film many years ago, just had to see it again.
I saw this film on television a number of years ago, and wished I'd seen it at the cinema. Buying it was an obvious choice as although the twist will absolutely wow you only once, it never gets less clever and you pick up on more and more of the detail you missed during previous viewings.
I am a real Kevin Spacey fan, his performances are slick and border on the understated, yet because of this they somehow just glisten. The soft spoken style makes me listen more attentively and I desire to know the details he's offering. Pete Postlethwaite, never disappoints, and although his character in this seems a little surreal, he is simultaneously compulsive to watch.
The film has real spirit, and the cast of actors as a whole seem to spark each other to great effect. It is only after you have finished viewing that you truly appreciate that no moment is wasted - it is fantastically controlled, in terms of the script, performance, filming, and indeed, of the audience.
If you like your crime films to be intelligent, compulsive and black then this could well be one for you - I love a good tale, and this doesn't let you down.
Not to sure about this one! A friend described this dvd as the greatest of all time and a "must have". I found the dvd very predictable and guessed the "baddie" about a 3rd of the way through. All in all, I found the dvd very disappointing.
This films has one of the best endings of all time. You can watch it 20 times and every time you watch it you pick up another clue to the mystery behind the film.
Wow, what a twist at the end! Excellent film with great acting. Love the 'cripple', was weird at parts the first time I saw it but the second time I watched it made more sense.
TOP THRILLER ANYONE WHO TELLS YOU THEY KNEW THE ENDING WITHOUT BEING TOLD IS LYING.
Winner of two 1995 Academy Awards, including Best Original Screenplay, this masterful, atmospheric film noir enraptured audiences with its complex and riveting storyline, gritty, tour-de-force performances (including an Oscar-winning turn by Kevin Spacey) and a climax that is truly deserving of the word stunning. This "thoroughly engrossing film " (HBO) is so "gripping and diabolically clever" (The Wall Street Journal) that it becomes "a maze you'll be happy to get lost in" (Los Angeles Times)!
Held in an L.A. interrogation room, Verbal Kint (Spacey) attempts to convince the feds that a mythic crime lord not only exists, but was also responsible for drawing him and his four partners into a multi-million dollar heist that ended with an explosion in San Pedro harbor - leaving few survivors. But as Kint lures his interrogators into the incredible story of this crime lord's almost supernatural prowess, so too will you be mesmerized by a lore that is completely captivating from beginning to end!
Another Kevin Spacey fabulous film. In this film he appears as a cripple on the wrong side of the law. There are many twist and turns involved in the film and a most surprising end. No more to be said, but to watch it.

As with most films of this genre gratitious violence is in evidence, though what marks this film out is its fine story, tempo, and complex twists and turns. All the characters are well drawn and acted and the final is surprising yet not so that one always asks why it was not seen in coming. A wonderful night in.
First off this is not a bad film per se. But it's not good. The actors all put in respectable performances and the premise of the plot is acceptable; essentially a which bad guy is the really bad guy puzzler. But I didnt enjoy it. I have now watched it twice, after dismissing it on the first viewing and being told I was mistaken. So I watched it again to see if I could see the films hidden depths the second time around. I must of missed them again. Essentially to me it's a no brainer. Without giving away any spoilers, I thought the answer to the whole central question was pretty obvious from the start and, being so predictable, the so called big twist at the end was therefore all played out and somewhat dissapointing.
Taking that into account though, Suspects is still a film worthy of watching. The characters and the dialogue is pretty good, and Benfico del Toro is very very cool, although his character is underused, but in my opinion this is certainly no classic and nowhere near being the awesome film that others claim it is. A pretty average whodunnit.
A modern cops and robbers. Lots of action but little storey line. 1111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111 22222222222222222222222222222222222222222222222222222222222222222 aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa bbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbb
