The Thornbirds - Season 1 (DVD 2004)

Actually the rating is well beyond Excellent. I didn't see the movie when it came out in 1983. I was busy raising kids and didn't have much time to watch TV. Last year I was very sick and I saw this movie was on so I turned the channel and watched it off and on as I would sleep and wake up during the whole 8 hours. Needless to say by the end of it I couldn't go to sleep. This movie is the best Love story I have ever seen. The passion between Richard Chamberlain and Rachel Ward was so real. I'm sure many woman have dreamt of a Love like this. The love that Paddy Cleary had for his family was so warm and refreshing. Father's of today could learn a lot from this story line. Barbara Stanwyck was simply superb as always. She made the love she had for Father DeBricassart very realistic. I could continue to rattle on. Each and every character of this fabulous story was very well cast.

If you don't like this movie then you must be really old, mean and have never experienced true love. I'm very thankful that I've come close to experiencing this type of true love with my husband of 35 years.

Also, take the time to read the book. There are many differences in both of them that you'll be able to enjoy each of them respectively. You won't be disappointed. So, now go back to Ebay auctions and purchase the movie and the book.

Enjoyed watching this as much as i did when it was on the telivision some 20years ago.
A real trip down memeory lane
The DVD was a good copy well edited good colour it was as if i was on the farm in Australia with them.
It was nice to see a young Richard Chamberlain and Rachel Ward

I decided to buy this dvd, as i hadn't seen the film since i was a kid in the 80's. couldn't believe i found it, let alone it was on one dvd and not 3 or 4 video's. the film is better than i can remember, i understand the film more as an adult, and the way the unforbibben love is played in the film is just brilliant. The film had all my emotions kick in at some point in the 7 hours, love, hate,saddness, happiness. what a fabulous film (dvd)

I loved everything about this movie, it was a favourite of mine when is was originally aired on tv in the 80's. its great to have it in my collection.

Superb and moving saga which I bought because I remembered the television series from many years ago. Richard Chamberlain is magnificent as the priest who finds love leading him to break his vows, and the other actors and actresses are well cast. Excellent photography and splendid scenery.

What I do not like about it is that the DVDs are double-sided - but this is not mentioned on the packaging! I had to contact Warner Bros Home Videos to find out that I had not got a faulty version. They have promised me that later versions have made it clear that the discs are double-sided.

bought it for my mrs.so i could go fishing....itt must be good because i havent heard a peep out of her since i bought it .shes been sat in front of the tele watching it.buy it for your mrs and have a qiet life.

I adored this series when I saw it originally on TV (which is what compelled me to buy the DVD). Real escapism - a love story between a young girl and a priest she can never have. The love story spans many years, the acting is superb and the background music wonderful.
Note that DVD 2 is a double-sided DVD (Episode 4 is on the back!).
I'll be watching it many times over.

I first saw the T.V series in the seventies and was intrigued with the story of impossible love and the brilliant performances from Richard Chamberlain and all the cast,I also loved the music score.Seeing it again has lost none of it's original enjoyment.I can now treasure it on D.V.D and be able to watch it again at will and lend it to special friends-Mick Fiddler,Preston,Lancs.

i watched the thornbirds when i was a little girl my mum had it on video so when i started to use ebay i entered in one night and couldn't believe it was for sale to buy on dvd all these years later i have watched it and it is still a fabulous love story the best every made im going to pass it on to my mother she will love it thankyou

All time favourite. I bought it on video years ago and decided to buy it on DVD incase our video breaksdown.

I had been after a copy of the Thornbirds either on video or DVD. Ideally DVD. However, when I found it on Ebay I was over the moon and although I did not win by bid, I was offered the option to buy another copy, which I did. The transaction went extremely well and I would buy from the same seller again.

I am sorry I cannot make any comments just yet, as I have not yet viewed the above item. I will do so when I have viewed the dvd i.e. The Thornbirds

i bought the dvd of the thorn birds as i had the video for a long time but one of the vids got damaged.the thorn birds is probably the most romantic sexy film i have ever seen ,and the cast of richard chamberlin rachael ward brian brown and the old time actors including piper laurie jean simmons who is fab in this and barbara stamwyck at her most sinister are all fantastic ,oh and lovely christopher plummer who plays a realy great bishop.the film is for young and old rachael ward is a beautiful meggie,and although i have not yet read the book ,these are the faces i would see to bring the charracters to life ,if any one has not seen it ,it would make a realy romantic christmas present,the only dislike about this is the death of richard as the cardinal ,a real tear jerker .the dvd is fab .deb x

Saw this series years ago and really enjoyed so decided to buy it and am pleased with it . In excellent condition

half way through dvd started sticking and the second disc was the same as disc 1 so I could not finish watching which left me extremely disappointed.

Excellent veiwing for a christian family. A very good replacement for its video tape edition but having the all four episodes on only two discs ( (instead of four) is a minus because the sides are not labelled correctly which makes veiwing abit difficult to follow. But on the whole the Thorn birds is a 5 star movie any time;the picture and digital surround sound is great.Its a great classic.... an example of fate, love, faith, forgiveness, religion and the mercy of God to humanity.

I bought this very famous film as i had seen it years ago & thought it would be nice to see it again. I loved everything about this film very funny & also sad in parts it's also a romantic film. There was nothing at all i disliked about this film

This collection is a long ago televised series of a preist and a young woman that fall in love together against all odds. I was told about the series and once I had watched it, I bought a copy from Ebay, as it is a compelling true to life love story at its finest. It is both comprehensive, and fantastic watching from start to finish, beefing up towards the end as they all do. One of the legendary love fairy tales, such as romeo and juliet, but with a working background, jealousy, revenge, and romance. Its all in there, a film you will have to watch before you die!!! I love this film, I watched the original tv series in 1993, I bought the complete series in a video format, but it doesnt compare to the dvd version. fantastic, I will watch it over and over again, it is a fantastic love story. Thank you

I saw this mini series back in the 80's and I was enthralled by the story that tells of Meggie and father Ralph. Forbidden fruit ?!Romantic drama that you'll watch right to the end.Each episode leaves you wondering what will happen next.
