Album Notes Moving between Bowie as Ziggy Stardust, the Glam era, as The Genie, and through his more sombre moods and images, this album takes in the whole spectrum of Bowie's musical career. The album also includes his collaboration with Mick Jagger ('Dancing In The Street') and the much sampled Queen duet 'Under Pressure'. | |||||||||
Reviews Review created: 31/05/08 by: If you don't own Bowie's albums covered by this era, this collection is a must. As it's a compilation album there is not a bad track on it. Most Excellent. Report this review Review created: 19/02/08(updated 19/02/08) by: This has all of David Bowie's classic singles spanning the years 1969-1987, from 'Space Oddity' through to the late 1980s ('Absolute Beginners'). A great introduction to David Bowie if you haven't got any of the original albums already, as all the best tracks from the classic Bowie albums from the early 1970s onwards are included here. Every 'era' is covered, from the glam rock halcyon days of Ziggy Stardust and The Spiders from Mars, the Thin White Duke, the collaboration with Brian Eno (during the years 1977-79), up to the late 1980s. There are other Bowie compilations available, (2002's 'Best of Bowie' contains many of the tracks here). Apart from the fact that there are no tracks from the 'Man Who Sold The World' album (of which the title track could have been included), this is probably the best of all the Bowie compilations available. The track sequence is good, and none of the tracks are edited - 'Golden Years', 'Fashion', 'Ashes to Ashes' etc are in their full-length album form. Other classic tracks on here include Bowie's collaboration with Queen, 'Under Pressure', and the original version of 'Fame' (in place of the 1990 remix of that track). In addition to that some perhaps lesser known cuts such as 'Alabama Song', 'Beauty and The Beast' are here too, and the closing track 'Day In, Day Out'. 37 titles in all. You won't be disappointed. Shame its not around on vinyl, but all the songs are digitally remastered. Classic Bowie, so do yourself a favour, go for it! Review ID: 10000000005725429 Was this review helpful?
