A bad business investment, a bevy of parking tickets, and back taxes in addition to rent, childcare, and groceries keep him constantly scrambling for cash. Chris thinks his luck is changing when he is accepted into a highly competitive internship program at a brokerage firm. But the internship is unpaid and soon, despite his best efforts, Chris and his five-year old son Christopher find themselves homeless.

Will Smith did a great job as the father trying to protect his son from their circumstances of becoming homeless as much as he can, while at the same time trying to work in the competitive world of stocks as an un-paid intern. Jaden Smith was outstanding as the preschool-aged kid who knows things are going wrong and tries to have a stiff upper lip, but just can't do it all the time. The story is very touching and was close to home for me. My family has been through some tough times, and this movie just reminded me of how much my parents struggled to provide for our family and yet kept life fun as much as they could. I am excited to go see this with my parents as a way to say thank you. Review ID: 10000000003859762 Was this review helpful? Report this review 5 of 5 people found this review helpful. Based on a true story, the film centres on salesman Chris Gardner (Will smith) and his son Christopher (Jaden Smith, Will's son). It tells how they hit rock bottom and then start digging a hole, as Chris tries to make a better life for himself and his son after his wife walks out and financial ruin is looming. Very well acted by all but a very predictable "American dream" story that at times is a little slow moving but well worth watching. Review ID: 10000000004869820 Was this review helpful? I love Will Smith both Music & Films but and there is a "Big But" overhanging this Film as he didn't quite step-up to the Mark we all know & Love him as! The Story which is inspired by a True Story is both Sad and Humorous and Not to forget Will Smith's SOOOO Cute Real Son Jaden Smith who plays Little Christopher in the Film who puts on a Fantastic Debut Performance and will without-a-doubt be up there following his Fathers Footsteps and beyond! This film follows a father who is struggling to make ends meet, when his girlfriend walks out on both him and their son. Left with his 5 year old to raise and just starting an unpaid job at a Stockbrokers where only 1 in 20 will make the break, Chris (Will Smith) is evicted from his apartment and is left walking the Streets finding Homeless Shelters for him & his Son. His Love and Determination for his Son could land him on his feet and make him a Wall Street Legend. Worth a Watch if only to see a REAL Father & Son Film! Report this review I like this film because it is based on a true story, it shows that through hard work and perseverance you can achieve anything you want to. Will Smith (main character) is married with a son, he is a struggling sales man who no matter how hard he tries to sell his equipment to get enough money for his family to survive, something goes wrong. Well just when you think it cannot get any worse,it does, this is where the film starts to peak. I do believe that this is Will Smiths best film so far and the boy in this is played by his actual son, his part in this was great. The only thing I didn't like about it was the way it ended. This is definitely a movie that should be watched and if you like watching emotional films that make you weep, this is the one, but there are also funny parts as well as areas that encourage you to aim for your own goals.
